Better care for workers

In 2025, Workers' Month will play an even more special role, being the first year that employers, relevant agencies, especially trade unions and workers nationwide implement the Trade Union Law 2024 and the Social Insurance Law 2024. These are two important laws that directly affect the rights and interests of union members, employees and trade union organizations; creating important legal provisions for trade unions at all levels to better perform their functions and tasks of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees, as well as requiring greater responsibility from relevant agencies, so that the rights and obligations of employees always go hand in hand.

With the theme "The Vietnamese working class takes the lead in entering a new era", along with the legal provisions just passed by the National Assembly at the end of 2024, Workers' Month 2025 is expected to create new momentum. The launching ceremony of this year's Workers' Month was enthusiastically organized by trade unions at all levels in the province from mid-April with many activities. Along with the goals and tasks according to the general plan, each trade union has set out specific tasks suitable to the local, unit, and enterprise realities, promising to protect and care for workers' rights at a higher level.

However, like every year, what many workers are concerned about is that after Workers' Month in many businesses, workers' lives have to face "silences" such as unsafe working environments; lack of cultural and entertainment activities outside of working hours; employers do not pay mandatory insurance for workers... Especially, some business owners require workers to work overtime, putting pressure on workers to work more, but the enjoyment is not commensurate...

Therefore, organizing only one Workers’ Month in a year may not be enough for workers to fully and permanently enjoy union benefits. Activities to protect and care for workers need to be organized more regularly by trade unions in coordination with business owners. In particular, trade unions must strengthen supervision of ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of workers at enterprises, to limit the situation of strikes and collective work stoppages that have been on the rise in the province recently.

Along with that, the Trade Union Law 2024 and the Social Insurance Law 2024 have more specific regulations on the authority and responsibility to represent, care for and protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of trade union members and employees, such as investing in the construction of social housing, cultural and sports facilities, and related technical infrastructure serving trade union members and employees. In addition, activities to care for and improve the lives, culture, and spirit, as well as expanding the subjects participating in compulsory social insurance and voluntary social insurance, etc. These tasks need to be seriously implemented and monitored by trade unions at all levels and competent authorities. Workers' Month 2025 is the time for trade unions at all levels to organize caring activities, including requiring business owners to seriously implement this issue, so that the Trade Union Law 2024 and the Social Insurance Law 2024 can gradually come into effect after taking effect next July.
