Following Professor Thach, the faculty members and representatives from the departments and faculties successively greeted the new students in the language of their respective majors. According to Hanoi University, the multilingual welcome ceremony for students began five years ago. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic, this part of the ceremony was conducted online.

Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Rector, said this performance is a unique feature of Hanoi University. Through it, students can experience and interact with the foreign languages taught by the university, and also learn more about the university's tradition of foreign language research. This year, the performance includes Thai and Polish.

"I feel just as excited as students on their first day of school," Mr. Dung said, adding that the teachers had all carefully prepared their speeches to welcome the students.

For his part, Mr. Dung commended the students' efforts upon admission. He recognized HANU as the place where students begin their journey to conquer academic challenges, where they shape their future careers and start pursuing their dreams. He advised them to be confident, continue to excel, and never stop striving.

For the first time, the Thai language was featured at the opening ceremony. Ms. Trinh Thi Thu Ha, a lecturer at the Center for Thai Language and Culture, shared her nostalgic feelings, recalling her first opening day at HANU.

"It's a pleasure to welcome you to HANU. I wish you four happy years here, enjoyable studies, and that you graduate as high-quality students. I wish you all the best in pursuing your dreams," Ms. Ha summarized the greeting in Thai.

According to the female lecturer, this method helps inspire and lay the groundwork for students to develop a liking for another language.

Dr. Pham Bich Ngoc, Head of the Italian Department, also believes that while the new students may not fully understand the content of the welcome message, hearing the languages they are about to learn for the first time will be interesting and engaging.

" Don't think of university as just a walk in the park, because each step will lead us to a bright future. Be confident because your teachers will always be with you on that wonderful journey," Ms. Ngoc said in her speech.
