At approximately 6:40 AM on October 6th, a container truck with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, towing a 40-foot trailer, was traveling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway , heading from Thu Duc City towards Dong Nai .
As the vehicle passed the Long Phuoc toll station in Long Phuoc ward, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City), about 100 meters away, thick smoke and flames suddenly erupted from the engine of the container truck.
Upon discovering the fire, the driver quickly pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, opened the cabin door, and shouted for help to put out the flames. In just moments, the fire had engulfed the entire container truck cabin.
Major Hoang Xuan An,队长 of Highway Patrol Team No. 6 (Traffic Police Department), said that after receiving information about the fire, his unit coordinated with the Vietnam Expressway Technical Services Joint Stock Company and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force of Thu Duc City Police to approach and control the fire.
The fire completely destroyed the front of the container truck, leaving only the frame. The incident also caused a prolonged traffic jam on the highway.
To limit the influx of vehicles onto the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai, which would create additional pressure, the traffic police have diverted traffic from a distance, directing vehicles to use Pham Van Dong - Hanoi Highway to "avoid" the expressway.
By 9 a.m., traffic on the highway was still experiencing localized congestion.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
