"Check-in" for Tet early

Việt NamViệt Nam13/01/2025

There are still 20 days until the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, but the trend of "checking in" during Tet (Lunar New Year) is already booming in the community, especially among young people. At many street corners, cafes, Tet flower markets, tourist spots, and historical sites, many people have chosen different styles to take photos to celebrate Tet.

Many young people are choosing historical sites to capture beautiful photos for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025.

Confident in her elegant, modernized ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), Nguyen Anh Thu (Gia Cam ward, Viet Tri city) said: "Every year, my friends and I take photos in ao dai during Tet. This year, we chose Hung Lo communal house as the location to combine sightseeing with taking beautiful photos at a famous historical site in our hometown. Learning from previous years, we booked with the photographer early and browsed around ao dai rental shops to choose the most suitable outfits and accessories."

Choosing a gentle and simple style for her photoshoot, Ms. Vu Thanh Dung from Hung Vuong ward, Phu Tho town, was delighted to transform herself into a country girl carrying a basket to the Tet market in the 1980s and 90s, wearing a floral ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), wooden clogs, and carrying a wicker basket. Ms. Dung shared: "To naturally embody the image of women from the past, I researched the postures, gestures, and photography styles of that era. However, to save costs, I did my own makeup in the 80s and 90s style, using ao dai and accessories (market basket, bouquet, etc.) readily available at home. It wasn't overly elaborate, but I still ended up with a beautiful and satisfying set of photos."

The atmosphere of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) in the old days has been recreated at MiO Milktea & Coffee cafe, attracting many young people to check in.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh (Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city) chose to have her Tet (Lunar New Year) photoshoot at MiO Milktea & Coffee cafe on Ha Lieu street, Gia Cam ward, Viet Tri city. In a setting reminiscent of Tet celebrations of the past, with rose branches, dried onion and garlic garnishes, clay piggy banks... and vibrant chrysanthemum pots, Ms. Linh captured a set of Tet photos with a distinctly nostalgic style.

Strolling around the Tet flower market at Hung Vuong Square in Viet Tri City, it's easy to spot women in colorful ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dresses) showcasing their beauty alongside vibrant peach blossoms or various other flowers like marigolds, chrysanthemums, begonias, azaleas, and sunflowers. The flower market is not only a place for spring outings and shopping, but also a popular spot for people to take photos and capture beautiful moments of spring.

With many years of experience in taking Tet (Lunar New Year) photos, Mr. Dang Thanh Quang, owner of Ngot Photography studio (Viet Tri City), shared: "The trend of taking Tet photos, especially among young people, has become quite common in recent years. From as early as November of the lunar calendar, my colleagues and I have already had clients booking photo shoots. On average, the studio handles 3-5 shoots per day for clients, mostly aged 16-30."

To give customers more options for outdoor or indoor photoshoots, his shop has designed many photo corners with different Tet themes. He proactively researched customs and traditions to create photo corners inspired by the simple and familiar images of Tet of the past, such as pink peach blossoms, red couplets, and green banh chung (traditional rice cakes)... However, to attract younger customers, photographers must also constantly change, update their knowledge, find new, unique camera angles, and "hot" locations... creating differentiation and keeping up with the trends of young people.

It's clear that taking photos to celebrate Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) is not only about preserving moments and memories, but also a way to get closer to and preserve the traditional beauty of the Vietnamese Tet holiday. The trend of "checking in" before Tet has made the spring atmosphere even more vibrant and joyful, contributing to the promotion of tourism in Phu Tho.
