On April 9th, dozens of officials, members of the Women's Union of Song Mai commune (Kim Dong district), and residents of the commune volunteered their labor to help Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich, an elderly, disabled woman living alone in Mai Xa village, repair her house.
Sympathizing with Mrs. Bich's difficult circumstances, without needing any prompting, each person, according to their ability and health, pitched in to help with tasks such as moving furniture, removing roof tiles, and carrying bricks. Although it was a bit tiring, everyone was happy for Mrs. Bich, who would soon have a new, more spacious house.
Ms. Dao Thi Hanh confided: "For a long time, the villagers felt sorry for him living in that dilapidated house but didn't know how to help. Now that the government has a program to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, we have contributed a little money and labor so that he can live in a sturdy house before the rainy season."
Representatives of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province and philanthropists presented financial support for house construction to poor households in Lam Son ward ( Hung Yen city).
Comrade Truong Thi Ngoc Anh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kim Dong District, said: Kim Dong District has 160 households eligible for support in building new houses or repairing existing ones. To mobilize the combined strength of the entire political system and the people, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district launched the program "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the district in 2025" and has received over 2.5 billion VND in support from organizations, businesses, and the people. Of this amount, Phuc Loc Thinh Trading Company Limited donated 680 million VND; Hung Yen Investment and Development Group Joint Stock Company donated 200 million VND. In most localities, when starting construction projects, the Fatherland Front Committee mobilizes member organizations and the people to provide labor assistance...
Upholding the spirit of mutual support and compassion of the nation, in recent years, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels in the province has actively propagated and mobilized organizations and individuals to support the "For the Poor" Fund through fundraising campaigns during the annual "Month of Action for the Poor". Along with organizing fundraising events and sending appeals to agencies, organizations, and businesses, the Front members have also creatively adapted fundraising methods to suit different target groups… As a result, the annual collection of the "For the Poor" Fund consistently exceeds the target. In 2024, agencies, businesses, and the people contributed over 44.7 billion VND to the "For the Poor" Fund.
From the funds raised, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels advised the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the "For the Poor" Fund Campaign Committee at all levels to allocate funds from this fund, along with the provincial and local budgets, to give gifts to 100% of poor households in the province; support the construction and repair of houses, support medical examinations and treatment, cover unexpected risks, and support poor households in developing production...
For example, following the damage caused by Typhoon No. 3 and its aftermath, in response to the call of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, agencies, businesses, and the people donated over 54 billion VND and many essential goods to help localities promptly support and encourage people affected by the typhoon to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. In 2024, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province also proposed that the Provincial "Relief" Fund Campaign Committee allocate 60 million VND to support three families whose relatives died in the fire at Trung Kinh apartment building (Hanoi). During the recent Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, over 33,100 gifts, totaling over 18 billion VND, were given to poor households, near-poor households, and households with difficult circumstances.
Not only does the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province excel in social welfare work within the province, but it also actively supports social welfare activities in neighboring provinces, especially those with large Hung Yen communities. In 2024, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hung Yen province advised the Provincial Party Committee to allocate 10 billion VND from the provincial budget to support five provinces: Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, and Lao Cai (2 billion VND each), in order to help the central government and these provinces overcome the difficulties caused by Typhoon No. 3 as soon as possible.
From small gifts to larger forms of support such as: assistance in building solidarity houses, sanitation facilities, providing seedlings and livestock, or gift packages to help poor households have a warm and prosperous Tet holiday... all are noble gestures, imbued with human kindness, with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels acting as meaningful social welfare bridges, helping poor and near-poor households and people with difficult circumstances to gradually overcome difficulties, rise up, and contribute to the local area's efforts to complete the criteria for advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas.
