Kẻ Gỗ was originally the name of an ancient Vietnamese village in Mỹ Duệ commune, now part of Cẩm Mỹ commune, Cẩm Xuyên district, Hà Tĩnh province, located 70 km south of Vinh city. In the past, Kẻ Gỗ was situated along both banks of the Rào Cái River (also known as Ngàn Mọ River). The Rào Cái River is the confluence of hundreds of streams flowing from the Trường Sơn mountain range.
The lake is located in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province, 70 km south of Vinh city. It is an artificial structure, primarily serving irrigation purposes. Construction began in 1976 and the main components were completed in 1980, with the entire system put into operation in 1983. The lake is nearly 30 km long, comprising one main dam and ten auxiliary dams, with a water storage capacity of 300 million m³.
The Ke Go Lake was initially designed by French planners, and construction began on some sections before World War II and the subsequent Indochina War broke out, leaving it unfinished. It wasn't until after the country's reunification that Vietnamese hydraulic engineers completed the design and construction. With its dreamy and poetic beauty, the lake nestles among mountain slopes, surrounded by lush green forests, its waters crystal clear. Ke Go Lake resembles a giant mirror reflecting the surrounding forests and mountain ranges; even amidst the rushing water, various trees thrive, providing shade. The lake's surface is further adorned with numerous small islands, each a mysterious world of its own.
This is Kẻ Gỗ, after so many years of waiting.
Today, the area is covered with jagged hills and mountains.
Small streams flow down the river to the sea.
(Song: The People Building the Ke Go Lake; Composer: Nguyen Van Ty)
The bridge leading to the temple dedicated to the late General Secretary Le Duẩn, curving amidst the turquoise waters of the lake, is a place where you can capture beautiful images…
Kẻ Gỗ has always held a deep affection for its children who have left home, and it leaves a lasting impression on anyone who visits.
Beautiful scenery along the way to Ke Go Lake.
