NBC News reported that on February 3, President Trump signed into law the budget bill, which had been passed by both the House and Senate, ending the partial government shutdown that began on January 31.
This budget package will ensure funding for the federal government until the end of September 2026. However, the Department of Homeland Security will be restricted for two weeks due to Democrats' insistence on changes following the shooting deaths of two Americans by federal agents in Minneapolis.

"This measure opens up a 10-day period of urgent negotiations for the U.S. Congress to reach an agreement on funding for the Department of Homeland Security amid Democratic demands for reforms to curb Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)," the source said.
The vote on the bill was postponed by a day after Democratic members implicitly indicated they would not be able to secure enough votes to quickly pass the budget bill on February 2nd.
Previously, the US government partially shut down from the morning of January 31, 2026, even though the Senate had passed the budget bill just hours earlier. House Speaker Mike Johnson then said he hoped the House would pass the bill by February 2.
