Born and raised in Na Cuom, Mong An commune, Binh Gia district, Lang Son province, a mountainous and disadvantaged area, Comrade Canh is a shining example of the Tay ethnic group's studious spirit. With the dream of becoming a soldier of Uncle Ho's army, in September 2015, Canh passed the entrance exam to the Political Officer School and always strived to study and train diligently, cultivating excellent moral character. He achieved high results in all his years of study, earning the title of Advanced Soldier every year and graduating with the rank of Lieutenant (September 2020).
After graduating, he was appointed Deputy Political Commissar of Company 10, Battalion 6, Regiment 95 by his superiors. During his time in office as Deputy Political Commissar and Secretary of the Youth Union Branch of Company 10, Canh was a passionate Youth Union officer, actively participating in Youth Union activities and youth movements in the unit, and was highly appreciated by superiors at all levels.

In July 2022, Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh was appointed Political Officer of Company 3, Battalion 4, Regiment 95, Division 325 by the Party Committee and the unit's command. Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh shared: "Faced with this great honor, I am always concerned that I need to strive and train even harder to live up to the trust of my superiors. Therefore, I always actively try my best in my work, proposing to the Party branch policies and measures to lead the unit to successfully complete all assigned tasks."
In 2025, Company 3 was assigned the task of training new recruits. Senior Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh successfully implemented the directives of his superiors, which was to practice the "three together" principle with the soldiers: eating together, living together, and working together with the new recruits, creating a close and intimate relationship like an older sister, being fair like an older brother, and understanding like a friend.
For example, in Platoon 8, there was a new recruit, Nguyen Van Binh, who, upon enlisting, showed signs of depression, often cried, and rarely interacted with his comrades. Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh promptly noticed, understood, and encouraged him. Thanks to the concern of the Company's Political Officer, Binh shared his family's difficulties: his father was paralyzed in both legs after an accident and could only help with household chores; his mother sells electrical appliances, often delivers goods, and also suffers from thyroid cancer, requiring frequent radiation therapy.
To help Binh feel secure in his work, Senior Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh regularly met with him, talked to him, shared his joys and sorrows, and helped him plan for the future. Thanks to this, Binh developed a firm understanding, a strong will, high determination, and made continuous progress; in his life, he became more sociable with his comrades, and in his studies, work, and training, he diligently and assiduously practiced. In the shooting test at target number 4, Binh achieved excellent results; and in the unit's cultural and artistic activities, Binh was also an enthusiastic and active member.
First Lieutenant Ly Manh Tri, Political Officer of Company 4, Battalion 4, shared: "We have learned a great deal from First Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh regarding his work style and responsibility. Notably, under the leadership and guidance of Comrade Canh, the Party Cell of Company 3 has consistently promoted and effectively maintained the activities of its working groups and teams, especially the three-person group, the civilian affairs soldier group, the security soldier group, and the psychological and legal counseling group. They promptly corrected any inappropriate or ineffective behaviors; strictly maintained the daily meeting schedule (the three-person group meets daily, the civilian affairs soldier group, the security soldier group, and the psychological and legal counseling group meet every Thursday evening), and reported to help commanders at all levels understand the ideological situation of the soldiers in the unit in a timely and comprehensive manner, thereby enabling them to take appropriate measures in managing and maintaining the troops."
In 2024, Lieutenant Hoang Xuan Canh was honored to be selected as an outstanding soldier at the grassroots level and was awarded the title of "Promising Young Face of the 12th Army Corps in 2024" by the Commander of the 12th Army Corps. Company 3 achieved the title of "Unit of Victory" at the Army Corps level.
