Focus on developing green tourism.

Developing green tourism is one of the solutions for sustainable tourism development. Following this direction, Bac Son district (Lang Son province) has focused on developing historical and cultural tourism, as well as tourism associated with agriculture and rural areas. These types of tourism help increase tourism revenue while ensuring the preservation of the landscape and environment. Bac Son district has 29 historical sites and relics. In addition, the district is blessed with many beautiful landscapes and magnificent cave systems; it also hosts many traditional festivals annually, and boasts many unique folk songs and dances.

Unleashing potential

With these potentials, over the years, Bac Son district has been implementing solutions to develop historical and cultural tourism ; community tourism; ecotourism; and experiential tourism associated with agriculture...

In Bac Quynh commune, taking advantage of its strengths, the local government and households have effectively implemented community-based tourism. Mr. Duong Doan Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Quynh commune, shared: "Bac Quynh commune has beautiful natural landscapes, with limestone mountain ranges, numerous caves, and flat fields... In particular, the commune preserves cultural features deeply rooted in the traditional identity of the Tay ethnic group, with many unique festivals... These factors create favorable conditions for developing community-based tourism. On average, Bac Quynh commune welcomes about 30,000 visitors annually; in the first nine months of 2024, the commune received nearly 50,000 visitors for sightseeing and experiences."

Besides Bac Quynh commune, Bac Son district currently has other community tourism destinations in Vu Lang and Chien Thang communes.

Along with the development of community-based tourism, ecotourism and experiential tourism linked to agricultural production activities have also been emphasized in Bac Son district. Accordingly, several agricultural development projects combined with tourism have been invested in the district, creating attractive tourist destinations such as: passion fruit gardens (Mo Hao); rice fields in Bac Quynh commune; tours exploring and visiting tangerine orchards; and tours and experiences at vineyards in Long Dong and Chien Thang communes... These are attracting a large number of visitors from within and outside the province and from abroad. In addition to the three community-based tourism destinations, the district currently has three ecotourism destinations and four historical and cultural tourism destinations. These destinations have been and continue to attract tourists.

Ms. Do Thanh Loan, Head of the Culture and Information Department of Bac Son district, said: Based on its natural, historical, and cultural values, Bac Son district has been implementing comprehensive solutions to exploit tourism resources and potential advantages to build unique tourism products, contributing to the promotion of the tourism industry.

With these measures, the total number of tourists visiting Bac Son district from 2016 to 2023 reached 663,146, exceeding the target set in Resolution No. 03-NQ/HU dated December 18, 2015, of the Standing Committee of the Bac Son District Party Committee on tourism development for the period 2016-2020, with orientation to 2025 (exceeding the target set in Resolution 03 by 165%); annual tourism revenue averaged 100 billion VND.

Making tourism a key economic sector.

Bac Son district aims to make tourism a key economic sector by 2030. Currently, the District People's Committee is directing communes and relevant units in the area to continue developing tourism products, especially those that reflect the unique cultural identity of the local ethnic groups.

Harvesting rice with rudimentary tools right in the fields of Bac Quynh commune during the 2024 Bac Son Golden Harvest Festival attracted a large number of tourists to visit and experience.

Specifically, the district focuses on developing outstanding tourism products such as: historical and cultural tourism (festivals, historical relics, etc.), community tourism, discovery tourism (exploring natural landscapes, caves, experiencing the life of local people), ecotourism, agricultural tourism (rafting, fishing, experiencing a day as a farmer, etc.); and continues to preserve, promote, and organize unique traditional festivals of the district... to attract tourists.

Simultaneously, Bac Son district continues to promote the restructuring of its tourism industry and strengthen linkages with other localities in the region to develop tourism. This is demonstrated by the fact that the Bac Son District People's Committee is continuing to organize seminars, fam-trips, etc., to connect Bac Son district's tourism with other localities. In addition to existing tourist routes such as Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Bac Son; Bac Son - Binh Gia - Lang Son city; Bac Son - Huu Lien..., the district is currently linking with localities in the Central region to form a longer tourist route.

Along with that, Bac Son district has been prioritizing the development of tourism infrastructure. Accordingly, with a total budget of approximately 870 billion VND, from now until 2030, Bac Son district will focus on investing in tourism infrastructure. In addition to investing in promoting and developing the Bac Son district tourism brand; investing in the construction of exhibition and promotion areas for OCOP products and typical local products..., the District People's Committee will focus on investing in: the Bac Son town integrated entertainment complex; the Hoa Stream ecological tourism area; the Vu Lang Lake resort; the Mo Nhai ecological resort; the Na Lay mountain tourism area; the Tan Huong commune resort; the Tran Yen flower valley entertainment area; and the pristine cypress forest ecological tourism area in Bac Quynh commune...

In addition, the District People's Committee continues to promote and encourage businesses to invest in tourism projects in the district, while also calling for socialized capital for tourism development activities, especially community-based, agricultural, and ecotourism.

Visitors to Bac Son can participate in experiential activities such as paddleboarding (SUP) to explore the natural landscape.

Ms. Duong Thi Thep, Vice Chairman of the Bac Son District People's Committee, said: To attract investment in tourism development, Bac Son district is continuing to improve policies and create favorable conditions to attract investors to build tourism products and services. At the same time, the District People's Committee is advising on the drafting of a Resolution of the District Party Committee on the development of tourism in Bac Son district for the period 2024-2030, with a vision to 2045; and implementing the development plan for tourism in Bac Son district until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

With the tourism development solutions that have been, are being, and will be implemented, Bac Son district is striving to make tourism a key economic sector. In particular, by focusing on and aiming for green tourism development, Bac Son district is gradually becoming one of the key tourist destinations of Lang Son province, in line with the province's tourism development plan and strategy for the coming years.
