When the flower pots begin to bud under the hands of the growers, it is also the most anticipated time of the year for the spring flower market. More than just a place to buy and sell flowers and ornamental plants, the flower market is also a familiar cultural space, where the fragrance and colors of spring are exchanged from sellers to buyers, preserving characteristic moments of the Tet holiday.

The spring flower market will be a place where the colors and scents of spring converge.
The spring flower market will be a place where the colors and scents of spring converge.

Spring will arrive on these roads.

This year, the shopping space at the spring flower markets continues to expand, stretching along many streets, riverbanks, and parks – places that are convenient for displaying and caring for ornamental plants, while also providing opportunities for locals and tourists to enjoy the spring scenery.

From fresh flowers, yellow apricot blossoms, bonsai, to watermelons, fruits for Tet decorations, calligraphy, ceramics… all kinds of goods for Tet come together, including many types of flowers and ornamental plants brought in from famous flower villages such as Sa Dec and Cai Mon-Cho Lach, contributing to creating a colorful and fragrant spring scene at each spring flower market.

In Long Chau ward, the spring flower market will be held on many streets with a total of over 800 stalls. A diverse range of goods will be available, from fresh flowers, yellow apricot blossoms, ornamental plants, bonsai, orchids to watermelons, fruits for Tet (Lunar New Year), antiques, calligraphy, artificial flowers, ceramics, and pottery…

The flower market will be located along Hoang Thai Hieu, Hung Dao Vuong, Phan Boi Chau, To Thi Huynh, Trung Nu Vuong, Ngo Quyen streets, etc. Notably, this year, fresh flowers will be arranged in a new location on the embankment of Kinh Cut Bridge, contributing to facilitating the buying, selling, and care of flowers and ornamental plants. The spring flower market here is expected to operate from February 2nd to 16th (corresponding to the 15th to 29th of the 12th lunar month).

Taking place at the same time, the spring flower market in Ben Tre ward is arranged along both sides of Hung Vuong street sidewalk, with an expected scale of more than 1,050 stalls selling flowers, ornamental plants, artificial flowers, and other Tet decorations. Larger ornamental plant businesses are arranged to sell in the An Hoi ward area for convenient display and transportation.

Meanwhile, Tra Vinh ward plans to set up more than 770 stalls selling flowers, ornamental plants, and typical Tet agricultural products from February 6-16 (corresponding to the 19th-29th of the 12th lunar month). The operating hours for each product category will be arranged flexibly, to suit market demand and actual conditions.

The area for selling ornamental plants and potted flowers will be concentrated on Nguyen Thai Hoc, Trung Nu Vuong, To Thi Huynh, Phan Chu Trinh, and Ly Tu Trong streets; potted flowers will be arranged on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Pham Thai Buong, and Dien Bien Phu streets…

Along with organizing the spring flower markets, localities are strengthening coordination with functional forces to implement plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety, fire prevention and control, and environmental hygiene, contributing to making the spring flower markets in all places safe, civilized, and meeting the expectations of people during the traditional Tet holiday.

Mr. Do Tiep, Vice Chairman of the Long Chau Ward People's Committee, said that this year's spring flower market in Long Chau Ward is more centrally located, expanding the fresh flower display area along the Tien River park embankment, contributing to creating a highlight for sightseeing in the square and surrounding streets. Security teams, established on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, are working in coordination with various forces to ensure the spring flower market is safe, orderly, and civilized.

Seeing flowers means seeing Tet (Vietnamese New Year).

To have vibrant potted flowers to meet the demand for Tet (Lunar New Year), behind the flower market lies a long and arduous season for the growers. These days, in flower villages and ornamental gardens, the caregiving work continues from morning till night. Expecting to bring more than 10,000 pots of chrysanthemums, marigolds, sunflowers, etc., to the spring flower market, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy (Hoa Qui hamlet, An Binh commune) not only hopes the flowers bloom on time but also expects higher Tet flower prices this year to compensate for the increasing investment costs, while flower growers have to put in a lot of effort and face weather risks. “As long as the flower prices are stable and sales are consistent, I’ll be happy. Even with a small profit, it’s okay as long as the months of hard work aren’t wasted,” Ms. Thuy shared.

Along with many other traditional values, flowers have long been a symbol of Tet, of new beginnings and hope. During Tet, every family wants to decorate their living space with a potted flower, a branch of apricot blossoms, or a vase of fresh flowers to convey many wishes for the new year. And the flower market is where those wishes are exchanged, from growers to buyers, from gardens to homes.

The spring flower market is not just a place for buying and selling, but also a place for cultural exchange. Visiting the flower market during Tet (Lunar New Year) has become a habit and a shared memory for many generations. As usual, from after the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, when the Kitchen God ascends to heaven, the Tet market begins to become more bustling.

By the 28th, 29th, and 30th, when children and grandchildren who work far from home return to their hometowns, the flower market becomes even more bustling. People go to the flower market not only to buy flowers, but also to rediscover the feeling of Tet, to relive those chance encounters, the lively conversations about the weather, the seasons, everyday life, moments that only come once a year.

Beyond its vibrant colors, the spring flower market is also captivating with its gentle fragrance. The scent of orchids, apricot blossoms, roses… blends with the cool, crisp air of the year-end. The calls of vendors, the lively laughter and chatter, the passing traffic… all combine to create a unique rhythm in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). Each flower carries the story of its grower, from the cultivation and care process to the hopes for a fulfilling spring season.
