Fishing boats dock at the port laden with seafood in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
At Sa Ky port (Dong Son commune, Quang Ngai province), the atmosphere is always bustling and lively. Fishermen are busy preparing fishing gear, refueling, and stocking up on necessities, ready to set sail with dozens of fishing boats. Many boats, having just docked, quickly replenish fuel and supplies and load more fishing gear onto deck to continue their voyages throughout the Tet holiday.
After more than 25 days of fishing in the Truong Sa fishing grounds, the fishing vessel QNg 92568 TS, owned by fisherman Ly Hiep (An Phu commune), returned to Sa Ky port with its hold full of fish. As soon as the ship anchored, the crew quickly transferred the seafood ashore to sell to traders.
According to Mr. Hiep, the recent fishing trip yielded about 7 tons of flying fish, which sold for 20,000–23,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, each crew member earned a considerable income to prepare for Tet (Lunar New Year) for their families.
Mr. Vo Van Hai, Head of the Fisheries and Marine Affairs Department of Quang Ngai province, said that it is not yet possible to accurately count the number of fishing vessels that went out to sea during Tet. However, recently many fishing boats have continuously docked at ports with large catches and high selling prices, helping fishermen earn a significant additional income.
