Over the years, the Party Committee and the local government of Bang Mac commune have actively propagated and encouraged people to convert inefficient agricultural land to cultivate crops with higher economic value. This has gradually increased production value and boosted people's income.
Bang Mac commune has over 7,500 hectares of agricultural land (accounting for 63.82% of the commune's natural land area). This is an advantage for the commune to develop agricultural production. In recent years, the commune government has intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to change the crop structure, introducing high-economic-value crops into production.

As one of the pioneering households in the commune that has transformed its crop structure to achieve high economic efficiency, Mr. Ly Van Tiep from Coc Lung village said: "In 2018, guided by the commune government, my family cleared and improved the rocky and barren land previously used for corn cultivation to plant 1,000 custard apple trees. During the planting and care process, I regularly participated in training courses on scientific and technical transfer organized by the commune and proactively learned from custard apple cultivation models in neighboring communes, thanks to which the trees developed well. To date, my family has more than 2,000 custard apple trees. On average, the family's custard apple yield is about 10 tons per year, bringing in an income of about 250 million VND after deducting expenses. Currently, the family is actively caring for the new custard apple crop, and this year's yield is expected to reach about 12 tons."
Similar to Mr. Tiep's family, Mr. Hoang Van Ninh's family in Nam Noi village has also developed a model for growing Canh sweet oranges. Mr. Ninh said: "In 2021, after visiting several Canh sweet orange orchards in Bac Ninh province and neighboring communes, I converted my corn-growing land to this crop. After two years of care, the trees grew well and began to bear fruit. Recognizing that this fruit tree is suitable for the local climate and soil, my family continued to convert less productive agricultural land to growing Canh sweet oranges. To date, my family has more than 2,500 Canh sweet orange trees; on average, we harvest 15 to 20 tons of fruit each year, bringing in an income of 600 to 700 million VND per year."
Not only the two families mentioned above, but many households in the commune have also switched to different crop structures. Ms. Vi Thi Dien, Head of the Economic Department of Bang Mac commune, said: To support people in effectively switching crops, the department has advised the Commune People's Committee to coordinate with specialized units to organize training courses, transfer scientific and technical knowledge, and provide vocational training for people; assigning officials to regularly monitor production situations to promptly advise and support people… For example, from the beginning of 2026 to the present, the commune government has coordinated with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to guide people on techniques for caring for Canh sweet orange trees; organized 31 propaganda sessions (with over 2,000 participants) on the content and support programs according to Resolution 02 dated March 26, 2026, of the Provincial People's Council on some policies to support investment in agriculture in Lang Son province in the period 2026 – 2030...
In addition, the commune government also focuses on supporting and creating favorable conditions for people to access preferential loan sources to restructure crop production and expand production. To date, the entire commune has a total outstanding loan balance entrusted through the Social Policy Bank of nearly 77 billion VND with 925 borrowing households.
Thanks to the guidance and support of the commune government and the proactive efforts of the people, the entire commune has converted over 1,400 hectares of rocky, barren land and mixed orchards to cultivate various crops. These include primarily custard apple trees (over 300 hectares), peanuts (over 1,100 hectares), and Canh sweet oranges (over 12 hectares)... From these models, people have gained additional income ranging from 20 to 200 million VND per year, with some households earning between 300 and 500 million VND per year.
The effectiveness of crop conversion models has opened up a suitable direction for agricultural economic development in Bang Mac, contributing to increasing people's income. By the end of 2025, the poverty rate in the commune will be 2.94%; average per capita income will reach 42 million VND/person/year, an increase of 3 million VND/person/year compared to 2024.
