Economic restructuring in Chi Dam

Việt NamViệt Nam29/11/2024

Taking advantage of its favorable soil and climate, in recent years, Chi Dam commune, Doan Hung district, has actively shifted its economic structure and crop production towards improving unproductive orchards, expanding the area for growing specialty pomelos, forming concentrated commodity production zones, and promoting the application of science and technology in planting, caring for, and harvesting pomelos. At the same time, it encourages the development of the forest product processing industry, trade, and services, meeting both consumption and production needs while contributing to job creation and increasing income for the people.

Economic restructuring in Chi Dam

Focusing on caring for the specialty pomelo crop ensures high yield and quality, contributing to increased income for the people of Chi Dam commune.

Pomelo has been identified as one of the commune's key crops, covering an area of 127.4 hectares, of which 106 hectares are already producing fruit. The estimated yield is 180 quintals/hectare, with a total production of 1,908 tons and a value of 78 billion VND. To enhance the economic value of this crop, for the 2020-2025 term, the commune has identified improving the effectiveness and brand value of the Chi Dam specialty pomelo as one of its three breakthroughs.

Based on this, the commune encourages and mobilizes the people to renovate unproductive garden land and convert the purpose of cultivation to grapefruit farming. At the same time, it innovates production organization, promotes the role of cooperatives, production groups, and farms, focusing on safe production coupled with promotion and expansion of the consumer market. Chi Dam specialty grapefruit has achieved OCOP 4-star rating, has been positively received by the market, and is available in many supermarkets and stores inside and outside the province.

With 396 hectares of rice cultivation area, the commune focuses on directing the people to produce according to the seasonal schedule, promoting mechanization in all stages; concentrating on planting hybrid rice varieties, forming high-quality rice fields with high yields and economic value. Notably, the commune has directed the planning and successful initial construction of the Phuong Hung concentrated production field with an area of 30 hectares. In livestock farming, the total number of livestock and poultry is maintained stably; people have gradually shifted from small-scale farming to large-scale family farms and concentrated farms, resulting in more stable income.

Commercial, service, and small-scale industrial activities in the commune have developed with diverse forms, meeting the growing needs of the people and contributing to the transformation of the economic structure towards gradually increasing the proportion of service and small-scale industrial sectors. This successfully implements Resolution No. 11-NQ/DU, dated June 14, 2021, of the Commune Party Committee on developing agriculture , industry, small-scale industries, trade, and services into concentrated areas in a sustainable direction for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030.

Households involved in wood production, processing, and service businesses are facilitated to expand their production scale and access loan capital for economic development. Many production households have invested in modern machinery, equipment, and production lines to increase productivity, economic efficiency, and environmental protection. Currently, there are 558 production and business establishments in the commune.

Industries such as garment manufacturing, building materials, and agricultural and forestry product processing have developed, providing employment for hundreds of local workers with stable incomes. Services and trade have developed diversely and abundantly, with the volume of goods circulating within the commune increasing annually, ensuring that essential goods meet the consumption needs of the people in the commune and the surrounding area.

Comrade Nguyen Van Han - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: “The shift in economic structure in the right direction has brought clear results. The average per capita income of the commune has reached over 53 million VND/year, and the material and spiritual lives of the people have been increasingly improved and enhanced. The movement to build model new rural areas and advanced new rural areas has many advantages in mobilizing capital from the people. To date, on average, residential areas have achieved 11-13 out of 14 criteria for model new rural residential areas, with Phuong Hung 1 and Phuong Hung 2 areas having achieved model new rural area status. Chi Dam has basically completed the criteria for an advanced new rural commune.”

In the coming period, the locality will continue to focus on exploiting its potential and advantages; rationally and effectively utilizing resources to develop socio-economic aspects. In the development of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, the commune will promote development towards commodity production; strengthen value chain linkages in a sustainable, high-quality, safe, and efficient manner; mobilize resources and combine various programs and projects to invest in completing essential infrastructure; and focus on effectively directing the concentrated production field model for replication. It will actively attract investment capital from programs and projects; expand and develop trade, small-scale handicraft production, agricultural and forestry product processing, wood processing, and develop comprehensive trades and services to attract labor...
