The Cupertino giant (USA) has announced its business results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, with statistics ending December 30, 2023, according to Neowin .
In a press release, CEO Cook stated: "Apple's active and installed device count now surpasses 2.2 billion, reaching an all-time high across all products. And as customers begin to experience Apple Vision Pro, the company is committed to pursuing groundbreaking innovation."
Over 2.2 billion Apple devices are in use worldwide.
The latest figure represents an increase of approximately 10% since Apple last reported the number of devices in use. In February 2023, Apple revealed that the number of devices in use worldwide had reached 2 billion. According to data from Statista, the number of Apple devices in use reached 1 billion in 2016.
The new data emerges as Apple prepares to ship a new range of devices, starting with the Vision Pro headset. The mixed reality headset was first announced at last year's WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) keynote speech and it went on pre-order on January 19th.
Apple has announced over 600 new apps and games for the Vision Pro headset, which is compatible with over 1 million apps and games available for iPad. However, the Vision Pro compatibility list doesn't include popular titles like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube.
During the earnings call, CEO Cook also spoke about Apple's ongoing work on artificial intelligence and generative AI without giving any specific details. Previous rumors suggested that iOS 18 could be a major update in years to come, packed with several AI features.
Apple's CEO stated that the company will continue to invest in various technologies in the future. This includes artificial intelligence, which Apple continues to dedicate significant time and effort to, and will share details about this ongoing work later this year.
