Robots participate in a marathon race in China. |
This historic event not only captured the attention of the tech world but also thrilled sports fans worldwide, raising the big question: Can a machine beat a human on a grueling race track?
In a race where China hoped to showcase its robotics technological prowess, these extraordinary "athletes" of all shapes and sizes entered the fray with great enthusiasm. However, the final result delivered a pleasant surprise.
Despite being equipped with the most advanced technologies and even being allowed to change batteries and replace robots mid-journey, the metal "athletes" were still left in the dust by the endurance and speed of humans. "Tiangong Ultra," the pride of the Beijing Robotics Innovation Center, finished first among the robots with a time of 2 hours and 40 minutes.
However, this achievement is still nearly two hours short of the world record of 56 minutes and 42 seconds set by Ugandan prodigy Jacob Kiplimo. The male champion of the race even completed the 21 km distance in just 1 hour and 2 minutes.

The world's first robot marathon has concluded, with human perseverance emerging victorious. |
The "giant" Tiangong Ultra, with its long legs and special running algorithm, had to endure a tough battle. Three battery changes and the close assistance of a human runner to avoid unfortunate falls highlight the significant challenges that robotic technology still faces in real-world environments.
Nevertheless, the robots' "fighting spirit" remained a notable highlight of the event. Witnessing these machines striving to "take every step" alongside them, many human athletes couldn't help but enjoy capturing these unique moments.
The world's first robot marathon has concluded, with human endurance emerging victorious. However, this is not just a defeat for robots on the race track. It is also a significant step forward, a historical milestone opening new horizons for the development of humanoid robot technology, promising even more dramatic competitions in the future.
