Quang Ninh recognized as meeting the criteria for a Type I urban area.

On June 26th, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh signed Decision No. 1026/QD-BXD recognizing Quang Ninh province as meeting the criteria for a Type I urban area. The decision takes effect from the date of signing.

According to the Decision, the scope of Quang Ninh province's recognition as a Type I urban area includes the entire administrative boundary of the province. Currently, Quang Ninh has a natural land area of ​​6,231.27 km², with a projected population of 1,523,400 people by 2025.

This recognition is based on the Law on Urban and Rural Planning, the Resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on urban classification, as well as the proposal of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province in Submission No. 2690/TTr-UBND dated June 24, 2026. Previously, the Inter-sectoral Appraisal Council approved Appraisal Report No. 245/BC-HĐTĐLN dated June 25, 2026 on the Proposal to recognize Quang Ninh province as meeting the criteria for a Type I urban area.

The event of Quang Ninh province officially achieving the criteria of a Type I urban area is an important milestone, affirming its position and breakthrough development in infrastructure, economy , and society, opening up new development space for the key economic region of Northern Vietnam in particular and the whole country in general.
