Coach Park's associate has a new job in Laos.

Jong Song-chon, former head coach of the Park Hang-seo Academy, has been appointed as the head coach of the Lao women's national team starting in March 2025.

Newsis (South Korea) confirmed that the Lao Football Federation (LFF) appointed Jong Song-chon as head coach of the national women's team on March 24. The LFF will announce this information after the men's team's match against Vietnam in the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

"I am very honored to be in charge of the Lao women's national team. I will do my best for the development of women's football in this country, and I will build the Lao women's team into a highly competitive team," Coach Jong Song-chon shared.

With this appointment by the LFF, both the Lao men's and women's national football teams are now led by South Korean coaches. Previously, Ha Hyeok-jun coached the Lao men's team from the second half of 2024 and helped the team from the Land of a Million Elephants make significant progress in regional competitions, with three draws against stronger opponents such as Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

With an impressive resume, coach Jong Song-chon is also expected to help Lao women's football make similar progress. Born in 1972, coach Jong previously led the South Korean U20 women's teams in three Youth World Cups, coached Hanoi Women's Club I, and served as head coach of the Park Hang-seo Academy.

Mr. Jong was also a rival of the renowned strategist Shin Tae-yong during their time working in K-League 1.

Coach Jong is the first South Korean strategist and the second foreign coach to lead the Lao women's national team in history. Before Jong, the Lao women's team was coached by Japanese coach Nayuha Toyoda for about a year and a half. Prior to that, the Lao women's team was only coached by domestic coaches.
