Congo makes history at the World Cup for the first time.

(HTV) - The Republic of Congo created a major surprise at the 2026 World Cup. Trailing Uzbekistan early on, the African representative came back to win 3-1 and qualify for the knockout round for the first time.

Wissa and Mayele staged a spectacular comeback.

In the final match of Group K, played in Atlanta, the Republic of Congo entered the game determined to secure a favorable result to keep their hopes of advancing alive. However, Uzbekistan was the better team from the start, opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a skillful finish from Eldor Shomurodov.

With nothing left to lose, the African representatives continuously increased the pressure in the second half. The turning point came in the 68th minute when Yoane Wissa won a penalty and successfully converted it herself, leveling the score at 1-1.
