At over 9 a.m., the scorching sun of the border region beat down on the newly harvested rice fields on the northern bank of the Vinh Te canal in Vinh Dieu commune. Under the sweltering heat, officers and soldiers of the Vinh Dieu Border Guard Post, along with some local residents and Party members, diligently patrolled and protected the border and boundary markers.
Ms. Tran Thi Nhien, a Party member and member of the Women's Union of Vinh Dieu commune, residing in Nha Sap hamlet, has always done a good job protecting the border and boundary markers. She was recently awarded a certificate of commendation by the Provincial Women's Union for her outstanding achievements in participating in border and boundary marker protection. Ms. Nhien shared: “In the hamlet, people working in the fields every day pay attention. If any group crosses the border illegally, they will report it to the hamlet and the border guard station. Living here in a border area, we must always be vigilant. If there are any strangers, we must inform each other.”
Also demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility in protecting the border and boundary markers, Ms. Tran Thi Nhan, a Party member of the Ta Em hamlet Party branch, said: “The Women's Union of the commune and the hamlet Party branch, in coordination with the border guards and other forces in the area, regularly carry out border patrols, protect the border and boundary markers, and maintain stable operations. When responding to these activities, the people enthusiastically participate. The commune government also promptly rewards members who participate actively. The people are very proud and have a high sense of responsibility in protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.”
Each time they arrive at the border marker, Ms. Nhien and Ms. Nhan diligently clear the surrounding vegetation, sweep and clean thoroughly, and meticulously inspect the area. Upon detecting any unusual signs along the border or at the border marker, they immediately report them to the officers and soldiers of the Vinh Dieu Border Guard Post.
Ms. Ta Thi Kim Phan, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Vinh Dieu Commune, said: “We maintain the effective operation of two models of "Women's groups protecting the border and boundary markers" in Nha Sap and Moi hamlets with 30 members. Through this model, women members not only actively participate in patrolling and clearing the border and boundary markers, but also act as a bridge to mobilize people on both sides of the border to unite and build friendship.”
The protection of the border and boundary markers is a priority for the local authorities and the officers and soldiers of the Vinh Dieu Border Guard Post. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Do Duc Dung, Political Officer of the Vinh Dieu Border Guard Post, said that the people here mainly live off rice farming. In the hamlet, especially in the border area, farmers regularly remind each other to be observant when going to the fields each day, and to immediately report to the local authorities if they see strangers or any signs of illegal border crossing.
Over the past 10 years since the implementation of Directive No. 01/CT-TTg, dated January 9, 2015, of the Prime Minister on organizing the nationwide movement to protect national territorial sovereignty and border security in the new situation from 2015 to 2025, the movement has deeply permeated the lives of every hamlet and village in the Vinh Dieu border region. Party branches in each hamlet clearly assign responsibilities to specific individuals and tasks; mass organizations are actively involved; and the people act as the "eyes and ears." Thanks to this, the border is always guarded day and night.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Do Duc Dung stated: “We manage over 13.3km of border. Border guards cannot be deployed to cover the entire area, so border protection requires the joint efforts and assistance of the people and Party members. They are the ‘living landmarks’ in protecting the border and border markers. Many cases of smuggling and illegal immigration have been discovered thanks to the people. It can be affirmed that the strongest shield comes from the people.”
The movement for all citizens to participate in protecting national territorial sovereignty and border security in the new situation in Vinh Dieu commune has spread widely, attracting a large number of people to participate. As a result, political security, social order and safety in the area are always ensured, and national defense and security are maintained. External relations and people-to-people exchanges continue to achieve many results, contributing to building a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and mutually developing border...
