Dolores Boppel, 84, a resident of North Fort Myers in Lee County, Florida, was walking her dog when she encountered an alligator on the evening of September 5th. Boppel threw her dog away as the alligator lunged at her, according to Fox News on September 9th.
Ms. Boppel told WBBH that she was bitten on the leg and fingers before she punched the alligator in the face, causing it to retreat. The Lee County Sheriff's Office shared body camera footage of the aftermath of the attack.

"She was walking her dog out here and she said the alligator was charging straight towards her. She threw the dog away and saved it," a witness recounted in the video.
In the video, Mrs. Boppel appears cheerful and fully alert as medical professionals attend to her.
Ms. Boppel told WBBH that she was walking around a pond when she suddenly felt uneasy. "It was like a torpedo," Ms. Boppel said of the alligator. "I've never seen anything happen so quickly in my life," she added.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has identified the creature as an alligator measuring over 2.1 meters in length.
"The FWC, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, and the Lee County Emergency Services all responded at the scene, and a trapper captured the alligator. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries," the FWC said.

The FWC added that Florida alligators rarely cause serious injury to humans and encouraged Floridians to take certain precautions to avoid contact with alligators, such as keeping pets away from water and only swimming in designated areas during the day.
