Ta Van has just been ranked among the six most beautiful "hilltop villages" in Asia by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) of Hong Kong (China) – alongside other famous names in China, Bhutan, the Philippines, and India. Located 12 km from Sa Pa ward ( Lao Cai province), Ta Van is as beautiful as a painting, with villages nestled beside magnificent terraced rice fields. The new Ta Van commune was formed by merging the old communes of Muong Hoa, Hoang Lien, and Ta Van. It is home to the Mong and Giay ethnic groups. The natural scenery is beautiful, with mountains and clouds blending together. One of the most beautiful rice-growing routes in Ta Van is located in Lao Hang Chai village.
