Graduating from the Political Officer School in 2024, and after nearly two years of "teaching" political lectures to non-commissioned officers and soldiers in his unit, this year's competition marks the first time Lieutenant Pham Anh Tuan, Deputy Political Officer of Company 2, Battalion 1, 297th Air Defense Brigade, has been put to the test in a larger arena. Although he had prepared thoroughly for the competition and received feedback from his colleagues during each practice lecture, Lieutenant Pham Anh Tuan still felt nervous before "teaching" the troops political lectures.
Lieutenant Pham Anh Tuan shared: “My previous limitations when lecturing on political matters to soldiers were that I didn't spend enough time discussing and interacting with the students; some of the content wasn't closely related to the unit's practical situation. Therefore, my lectures often didn't fully convey the intended message. Before participating in the competition, I received feedback from my comrades and unit officers on my teaching methods and skills, and I have overcome many of these shortcomings.”

In his lecture practice session on "Strengthening National Defense and Security, Firmly Protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the New Situation" for non-commissioned officers and soldiers in the unit, Lieutenant Pham Anh Tuan's lecture was praised by the judging panel for its well-structured arguments; appropriate guidance and delivery of each content item; and vivid, practical examples. Throughout the lecture, Lieutenant Pham Anh Tuan mastered each topic, skillfully using supporting tools and PowerPoint presentations, creating interest for the learners.
As a young officer with many years of experience teaching political science to officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers in the unit, participating in this year's competition helps Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Trung, assistant officer and policy officer, Political Department, Brigade 297, to further hone and supplement his knowledge and pedagogical skills.
In the practical teaching demonstration, with the theme: "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh has become a self-driven need for Party members and the masses in the army today," Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Trung skillfully used clips, images, and valuable documents to highlight the revolutionary moral qualities of President Ho Chi Minh.

Lieutenant Nguyen Duc Trung shared: “Through my lectures, I hope that studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style in my unit today will not only be a political task, but also become a self-motivated and conscious need of each officer, Party member, and citizen, thereby building character, cultivating revolutionary ethics, improving work capacity, and maintaining the integrity of each soldier.”
The political instructor competition was not the only exciting event. Immediately after the opening ceremony, the atmosphere in the auditorium of the 297th Air Defense Brigade was lively, thanks to the appeal of the excellent speaker competition, with many military officers and logistics-technical officers participating for the first time.
Choosing the topic: New thinking and awareness on national defense and protection of the Fatherland as defined in the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Party, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Trang, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 297th Air Defense Brigade, informed the audience about many core contents on national defense and protection of the Fatherland as defined in the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Party, such as: the goals and tasks of national defense and protection of the Fatherland; building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern People's Army; building a modern defense industry; international integration and defense diplomacy.

In his presentation, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Quang Trang skillfully combined oral communication with visual aids such as video clips. He also updated the audience with much current information on military and defense activities within the Army, linking it to the practical tasks of the Air Defense Force; he explained and clarified many key points relevant to the presentation, making it easy for the audience to understand, remember, absorb, and apply the information.
Given its unique characteristics, the 297th Air Defense Brigade is dispersed across Phu Tho and Lao Cai provinces, carrying out many overlapping tasks. However, over the years, the Party Committee and command of the 297th Air Defense Brigade, as well as Party committees and commanders at all levels, have consistently focused on "improving" the skills of the unit's officers, especially through organizing and participating in competitions and sports events. Political education and the activities of lecturers and oral propagandists are regularly innovated and adapted to the unit's practical needs, tasks, and target groups. Party committees and commanders at all levels regularly provide training to improve the pedagogical skills and expertise of political instructors and lecturers.

According to Colonel Bui Van Thuy, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the 297th Air Defense Brigade: This year's competition for outstanding political instructors and lecturers is not just a contest; it helps the Party Committee, the brigade's command, and the Party committees and commanders of agencies and units gain a comprehensive view, aiming to objectively and realistically assess the quality of political instruction by the officers and the activities of lecturers currently in the unit.
The competition serves as a basis for the Party Committee and the brigade's command to identify key areas to include in the annual training and development plans for officers, aiming to enhance their comprehensive knowledge, especially pedagogical skills, while also identifying, disseminating, and replicating innovative approaches in political education and the work of lecturers within the unit.
