Opportunities for middle-aged workers and students
On many business websites in the city, the demand for seasonal workers increases significantly towards the end of the year. Timely recruitment of seasonal workers helps businesses ensure production and business progress before the Lunar New Year.
According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Anh, an employee of Bonsen Vietnam Creative Technology Co., Ltd. (Lai Cach Industrial Park), to ensure timely order fulfillment for partners, the company is currently recruiting more than 100 temporary workers to assemble paper shredders. The wage is 250,000 VND per day for 8 hours, with overtime pay of 40,000 VND per hour, and Sunday work is paid at 50,000 VND per hour.
Not only do businesses need to add staff, but jobs such as sales at grocery stores, delivery, gift wrapping, and Santa Claus impersonation services are also quite common, creating job opportunities for many middle-aged workers and students who want to work part-time and be paid by the hour.
Nguyen Tien Hiep, a student at the Maritime and Inland Waterway College 1, originally from Nghe An province, said: "After completing my semester exams, I want to find a part-time job that suits my health and personal schedule to earn some money to cover expenses and shopping."
Many middle-aged workers also find suitable opportunities, as the jobs do not require qualifications, skills, or experience, offer flexible working hours, and are not demanding.
Ms. Hoang Minh Ngoc, 48 years old, residing on Dang Kim No Street, An Bien Ward, shared: She recently found a job at a wooden gift basket manufacturing workshop in Kien An Ward. The workplace isn't too far, so she can commute by bicycle. The work is light and simple, involving assembling parts and sorting products. "After working 8 hours each day, I receive 200,000 VND in wages and a free lunch at the workshop. If I have family matters to attend to, I can take time off without any obligation," Ms. Ngoc said.

Beware of "easy jobs with high salaries."
In recent regular, mobile job fairs organized by the Hai Phong Employment Service Center, businesses registered to recruit seasonal workers for various positions without age, qualification, or experience requirements; they could recruit middle-aged women, rural workers during their free time, and students who want to "study and work" to gain experience.
Furthermore, even after a period of seasonal work, businesses create opportunities for employees to stay long-term if the work environment is suitable.
However, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Head of the Job Counseling, Placement and Vocational Training Department at the Hai Phong Employment Service Center, noted that for young people, searching for job information on social media also carries many unpredictable risks, such as: workers having to pay fees or advance money when submitting applications, not knowing clearly about the location, workplace, and specific job requirements.
Especially in the current context, many unscrupulous individuals exploit the gullibility and desire for employment of workers to scam them with promises of "easy jobs with high salaries," turning them into victims of human trafficking... Therefore, workers need to proactively verify information and seek jobs from reputable sources with clear legal status. At the same time, they must be cautious when approaching information about seasonal job openings where the recruiting company or organization is unclear.
On the other hand, seasonal workers may be supplied through labor agencies, third-party intermediaries, or may not have formal employment contracts, often relying on verbal agreements, which can negatively impact their rights. Common issues include not receiving full payment for actual working days and not receiving support in case of workplace accidents.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Thuc, Head of the Trade Union Affairs Department of the City Federation of Labor, said: Workers need to proactively learn about regulations to understand their rights, and try to keep images, information, and documents as evidence related to transactions concerning wages, working days, etc., in order to protect their own rights.
In the coming period, the City Federation of Labor will continue to guide and support businesses in implementing policies to care for workers who do not have contracts, those who are rehired, and seasonal workers.
