Upon reaching the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh and Pham Van Nghi streets in Tan Phong ward, the driver braked suddenly, causing the chain securing the cargo on the trailer to break. The steel coils rolled forward, crushing the cabin. The driver managed to escape unharmed.
The damaged cab of the tractor-trailer and its trailer blocked the intersection, causing traffic congestion. The South Saigon Traffic Police team arrived to record the scene and used a crane to remove the steel coils. Upon examination, the driver had no alcohol in his system and tested negative for drugs. He stated that he braked suddenly to avoid a collision with another vehicle, causing the chain to break.
In May, a coil of steel also crushed and deformed a truck cabin before falling onto the sidewalk in Di An City, Binh Duong Province. Incidents involving trucks carrying coils of steel are common in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai , posing a danger, yet there are no regulations in place to ensure the safety of the cargo by securing it properly or to address violations.
