Speaking to the press, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that after the bidding and price negotiation process for HIV drugs, the supply has been secured.
It is expected that ARV drugs for HIV treatment will be delivered and distributed to localities this Wednesday. In addition, the Ministry has also signed agreements with the World Health Organization and other supporting organizations to assist in the supply of ARV drugs, ensuring a sufficient supply for patients.
According to the Ministry of Health's leadership, the supply disruption is due to issues related to bidding regulations under the new law.
Previously, according to Tuoi Tre newspaper, over the past month many HIV patients have been worried about not receiving ARV medication covered by health insurance. Specifically, many HIV patients with stable treatment, instead of receiving enough ARV medication for three months, are only receiving enough for one month, or even two weeks.
Several provinces and cities have reported potential disruptions to health insurance coverage and difficulties in the procurement process for ARV drugs used to treat HIV-positive individuals. These supply disruptions put many patients at risk of disease progression.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, there are approximately 249,000 people infected with HIV nationwide. One of the worrying points is that the rate of HIV infection is currently getting younger. The percentage of people infected with HIV in the 16-29 age group increased from 37.2% in 2019 to 48.7% in 2022. In the first nine months of 2023, 47.3% of infected people were in this age group.
