Search teams have found one of the two pilots involved in the plane crash in Binh Dinh province; the pilot's health is stable.
On the evening of November 6th, speaking with Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Phan Chi Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Son district (Binh Dinh province), said that authorities had found one of the pilots involved in the military aircraft crash in the area.
"The search team found Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan in the forest area of Tay Phu commune, Tay Son district. Lieutenant Colonel Quan is in stable health, with only minor abrasions," Mr. Hung said.
Authorities are continuing the search for the remaining pilot.
Earlier, at 4:30 PM on the same day, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan contacted his unit by mobile phone to report that he was on a high mountain peak, with intermittent phone signal, so he couldn't communicate much, and then contact was lost.
According to the latest information obtained by our reporters, at approximately 6:45 PM on November 6th, search and rescue forces received further information from the mobile phone of Colonel Nguyen Van Son, Regiment Commander (the second person involved in the plane crash). Currently, authorities are making efforts to locate this pilot.
As previously reported, a Yak-130 military aircraft belonging to the 940th Air Regiment, Air Force Officer School, crashed after experiencing an incident at noon on November 6th.
At that time, the 940th Air Regiment organized training flights right at Phu Cat airport with Yak-130 aircraft, flying long distances, through low-altitude areas, and through clouds under complex meteorological conditions.
The training flight was piloted by Colonel Nguyen Van Son, the Regiment Commander, in the forward cockpit, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan, the Flight Chief, in the rear cockpit. This was the second flight of the day for the forward cockpit pilot in the flight crew.
The aircraft took off at 9:55 AM, and at 10:38 AM, upon completing the landing approach, the pilot reported that the landing gear was not deploying. Emergency landing gear deployment procedures were attempted, but without success.
The pilots reported to their flight commander and were given permission to parachute. Both pilots parachuted at 10:51 AM in the TB2 firing range area, Tay Son, Binh Dinh.
