Highlights of the opening ceremony of SEA Games 33

The host country Thailand brought a performance full of identity, harmoniously combining tradition and modern technology, creating a vibrant, emotional atmosphere for tens of thousands of spectators.

The opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games took place at Rajamangala National Stadium (Bangkok), with some sources saying that about 50,000 people attended the ceremony.

The opening ceremony began with a 3D mapping light show across the entire pitch, recreating the history of the formation and development of the Kingdom of Thailand. Images imbued with cultural imprints such as ancient Ayutthaya architecture, traditional dances and the colors of famous festivals were impressively presented through high-tech visual effects.

Some sources say that about 50,000 people attended this ceremony.

The harmony between traditional musical instruments and modern electronic sounds has created a unique artistic space, expressing the spirit of " Sports - Harmony - Sustainable Development", the main theme of this year's congress.

One of the most anticipated highlights was the parade of 11 sports delegations. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation entered the stadium amidst enthusiastic cheers, wearing bright red and yellow uniforms, demonstrating their determination to conquer their achievement goals.

The opening ceremony featured top Thai artists such as BamBam, Violet Wautier and Buakaw.

The performances combining traditional musical instruments and modern electronic sounds created a unique artistic space, expressing the spirit of "Sports - Harmony - Sustainable Development", the main theme of this year's congress.

The opening ceremony also made a strong impression with a performance of Thai martial arts combined with contemporary dance, recreating the resilient spirit and courage of the people of the Golden Temple. The creativity in choreography, combined with fireworks and powerful sound effects, turned the central stage into an explosive space of energy.

One of the important highlights of the opening ceremony was the parade of participating sports delegations. In the photo, two athletes, Le Thanh Thuy (Volleyball) and Le Minh Thuan (Taekwondo), were the flag bearers for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation in the opening ceremony. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation participating in the 33rd SEA Games had a total of 1,165 members, including 842 athletes.

The SEA Games torch lighting moment was the highlight of the ceremony. The legendary Thai athlete—an icon of the country’s sports—was given the honor of lighting the Games flame. The flame was activated by a system of LED lights and flares running along the stands, before igniting at the cauldron, marking the official start of the 33rd SEA Games.

Ending with a fireworks display that lasted for several minutes, the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games not only represented Thai cultural identity but also conveyed the message of solidarity, friendship and the aspiration of Southeast Asian sports. The ceremony left a strong impression, promising a successful and emotional Games.

Taekwondo athlete Panipak Wongpattanaki was honored to carry the torch and light the sacred flame at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games.

Panipak Wongpattanaki is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Southeast Asian Taekwondo athlete.
