According to information from the Central Committee's Health Protection and Care Board, General Nguyen Quyet, born in 1922, former Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, former Vice Chairman of the State Council, after a period of illness, despite the dedicated care of the Party, the State, a team of professors and doctors, and the devoted care of his family, passed away at 9:09 PM on December 23, 2024, at the Central Military Hospital 108 due to old age and weak health.

Details regarding the memorial service, funeral ceremony, and burial of General Nguyen Quyet will be announced later.

General Nguyen Quyet was born in 1922 in Chinh Nghia commune, Kim Dong district, Hung Yen province. He joined the revolution and, at the age of 18, was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party. At 23, he became Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, directly leading the people of Hanoi in a successful general uprising to seize power, making a very important contribution to the success of the August Revolution and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

For his outstanding achievements and contributions, he was awarded many prestigious honors by the Party and the State, such as: the Gold Star Order; the Ho Chi Minh Order; the First and Third Class Military Merit Orders; the First Class Combat Order; the First Class Victory Order; two First Class Resistance Orders against France and the US; the Military Banner of Victory Order… and many other prestigious awards from the Party, the State, and international friends.
