Rural development

Over the years, the military-civilian Tet has become a traditional beauty of the province's armed forces. Not only gifts, projects or exchange programs, the military-civilian Tet is also an opportunity for soldiers and people to join hands in building new rural areas, contributing to consolidating the strong people's hearts in the border areas. Colonel Huynh Van Khoi - Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command said: "This is a meaningful activity, maintained for many years, becoming a traditional beauty of the Party Committee, government, army and people of the province. From this program, the material and spiritual life of the people, especially in border areas, remote areas, and revolutionary bases has been significantly improved; many communes have met the standards of new rural areas, advanced new rural areas and models".

Over the past 5 years, the Provincial Military Command has coordinated with departments, branches, the Fatherland Front and staff organizations of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to organize the military-civilian Tet in 10 key communes and 47 communes under the responsibility of the district level (before the merger). From 2023, the program has been expanded, not only taking place on the occasion of Lunar New Year but also associated with the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet of the Khmer people in Minh Hoa, An Minh Bac, Ban Thach, and Hon Dat communes, bringing joy to the people.

That joy is clearly shown through the story of Mr. Luu Van Thuyen, residing in Ban Thach commune (now Giong Rieng commune), when he received a house of gratitude from the 2025 Military-Civilian Tet program. He said: "The house cost about 100 million VND to build, of which the Provincial Military Command supported 50 million VND, the rest was contributed by the family. Having a new house, I am very happy, I will try to do business to improve".

Spread the spirit of charity

The military-civilian Tet activities always focus on the grassroots, with the spirit of "celebrating Tet together, working together, taking care of the people". From building and repairing houses, bridges, roads, bringing electricity to light up the countryside roads to giving gifts, providing free medical examinations and medicine... all demonstrate the affection and responsibility of Uncle Ho's soldiers towards the people. Over the past 5 years, the whole province has mobilized more than 780 billion VND, 110,800 working days, of which officers and soldiers of the armed forces contributed over 90,000 working days. These resources have built and repaired 1,414 houses, 120 bridges, 155km of rural roads, 17km of electricity to light up the countryside roads, and hundreds of other civil works. In addition, all levels and sectors provided free medical examinations and medicine to more than 16,000 people, gave away 38,000 gifts, hundreds of scholarships, bicycles, tons of rice and seedlings, helping people stabilize their lives and escape poverty.

As one of the households receiving housing support from the 2025 Military-Civilian Tet program, Mr. Nguyen Van Roi, residing in Giang Thanh commune, said: "The Military-Civilian Tet is celebrated enthusiastically through activities such as building houses, giving gifts, providing medical examinations, building roads, building bridges, etc. The hamlets are more spacious, people are happy to welcome the new year, everyone is excited." The program is also a bridge to strengthen military-civilian solidarity. Many propaganda activities on the Party's policies, the State's laws, the heroic tradition of the Vietnam People's Army, sovereignty over borders, seas, islands and the province's development achievements are associated with cultural and sports exchanges, creating a bustling atmosphere, warm with human affection every spring.

Officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces also actively participated in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing more than 12,000 working days to build 423 houses for the poor; participating in natural disaster prevention and control, rescue, and supporting people during the epidemic; responding to the emulation movement "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one behind". Colonel Huynh Van Khoi affirmed: "The works, tasks and practical actions from the military-civilian Tet have spread the spirit of solidarity, humanity, the tradition of remembering the source of drinking water, and repaying the nation's favors, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party, the State and the armed forces, creating a solid foundation for building a people's heart position on the land of An Giang".
