Warm and affectionate bond between the military and the people.

Every Lunar New Year, the armed forces and local authorities organize the "Military-Civilian Tet" program, bringing the warmth of spring to the poor, families receiving preferential treatment, and people in border areas.

Rural areas are thriving.

For many years, the Tet (Lunar New Year) celebration between the military and the people has become a beautiful tradition of the provincial armed forces. Beyond gifts, projects, or exchange programs, the Tet celebration is also an opportunity for soldiers and the people to work together to build new rural areas, contributing to strengthening the people's support in the border region. Colonel Huynh Van Khoi, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, said: “This is a meaningful activity, maintained for many years, becoming a beautiful tradition of the Party Committee, government, military, and people of the province. Through this program, the material and spiritual lives of the people, especially in border areas, remote areas, and revolutionary bases, have been significantly improved; many communes have achieved the standards of new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas.”

Over the past five years, the Provincial Military Command, in coordination with departments, agencies, the Fatherland Front , and mass organizations, has advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to organize the Tet (Lunar New Year) celebration for the military and civilians in 10 pilot communes and 47 communes previously under the responsibility of the district level (before mergers). Since 2023, the program has been expanded, not only taking place during the Lunar New Year but also coinciding with the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet of the Khmer people in Minh Hoa, An Minh Bac, Ban Thach, and Hon Dat communes, bringing joy to the local people.

That joy is clearly demonstrated in the story of Mr. Luu Van Thuyen, residing in Ban Thach commune (now Giong Rieng commune), when he received a house built through the 2025 Tet program for military and civilians. He said: “The house cost about 100 million VND to build, of which the Provincial Military Command supported 50 million VND, and the rest was contributed by my family. I am very happy to have a new house and will try my best to improve my life.”

Spreading the spirit of compassion

Military-civilian activities during Tet (Lunar New Year) always focus on the grassroots, with the spirit of "celebrating Tet together, working together, and caring for the people together." From building and repairing houses, bridges, and roads, extending electricity to rural areas, to giving gifts, providing free medical examinations and medicine... all demonstrate the affection and responsibility of the soldiers of Uncle Ho's army towards the people. Over the past five years, the entire province has mobilized more than 780 billion VND and 110,800 man-days of labor, of which officers and soldiers of the armed forces contributed over 90,000 man-days. These resources have been used to build and repair 1,414 houses, 120 bridges, 155km of rural roads, 17km of rural road lighting, and hundreds of other public works. In addition, various levels of government and agencies provided free medical examinations and medicine to over 16,000 people, donated 38,000 gifts, hundreds of scholarships, bicycles, tons of rice, and seedlings, helping people stabilize their lives and rise out of poverty.

As one of the households receiving housing support from the 2025 Tet (Lunar New Year) program for military-civilian relations, Mr. Nguyen Van Roi, residing in Giang Thanh commune, said: “The Tet program for military-civilian relations was organized enthusiastically through activities such as building houses, giving gifts, providing medical check-ups, constructing roads, and building bridges… The hamlets are more spacious and well-maintained, and the people are happy to welcome the new year; everyone is excited.” The program also serves as a bridge to strengthen the solidarity between the military and the people. Many activities promoting the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, the heroic traditions of the Vietnam People's Army, border and sea sovereignty , and the province's development achievements are combined with cultural and sports exchanges, creating a vibrant and warm atmosphere of human connection every spring.

Officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces also actively participated in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing more than 12,000 man-days to build 423 houses for the poor; participating in disaster prevention and control, rescue operations, and supporting people during epidemics; and responding to the emulation movement "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one behind". Colonel Huynh Van Khoi affirmed: "These practical projects, tasks, and actions from the Tet holiday between the military and the people have spread the spirit of solidarity, compassion, the tradition of remembering the source of water, and repaying gratitude of the nation, contributing to strengthening the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the armed forces, creating a solid foundation for building a people's defense posture in the compassionate land of An Giang."
