- Through review, the demand for developing macadamia trees, Japanese persimmons (Fuyu and Jiro persimmons), and chestnut trees for nut production in the province is quite high. Therefore, relevant levels, sectors, and units have been implementing solutions to ensure both the quantity and quality of seedlings for these crops.
According to a summary from communes and wards in the province, by March 2026, the entire province had 2,240 households registered to plant the three aforementioned tree species with a total area of over 1,480 hectares, including macadamia trees on over 784 hectares, Japanese persimmon trees on nearly 498 hectares, and chestnut trees for nuts on nearly 199 hectares.

On March 26, 2026, the Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 02 on a number of policies to support investment in agriculture in the province for the period 2026 - 2030. This includes a policy to support funding for purchasing seedlings for planting macadamia, Japanese persimmon, and chestnut trees.
Driven by practical needs and timely, effective support policies, many organizations, individuals, and households (collectively referred to as investors) are very interested in planting the aforementioned tree species. Therefore, the demand for seedlings is expected to increase significantly in the coming period. Consequently, ensuring the quantity and quality of seedlings is a top priority for all relevant levels, sectors, and units.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh, Director of the Northeast Forestry Seed Joint Stock Company (Luong Van Tri Ward), said: Of the three types of trees (macadamia, Japanese rose apple, and chestnut), the company is currently producing two types of seedlings: macadamia and chestnut, with a total nursery area of 13 hectares. To ensure the quantity and quality of seedlings, the company has collaborated with relevant units to research and test to select tree varieties suitable for the climate and soil conditions.
To date, the unit has approximately 50,000 macadamia seedlings that meet the standards for planting. According to the production plan, by 2026, the unit will have a total of 130,000 macadamia seedlings and 100,000 chestnut seedlings that meet the standards for sale on the market.
According to data from the Provincial Forest Protection Department, for macadamia trees, there are 2 recognized seed sources in the province with 163 mother trees, providing over 65,000 grafting branches, equivalent to 326,000 cuttings per year; there are 2 nurseries currently producing 90,000 trees that meet the standards for planting (equivalent to 324 hectares). For chestnut trees, there is currently 1 nursery in the province with 60,000 seedlings that meet the standards for planting (equivalent to 120 hectares) and 100,000 newly grafted trees. For Japanese rose apple trees, relevant units are continuing to research, investigate, and connect with seed suppliers to ensure quality and compliance with regulations.
Resolution No. 24 dated March 3, 2026, of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of key, concentrated, and sustainable agriculture and forestry linked with processing and consumption of products in the period 2026-2030, sets specific goals: Develop commodity production areas for key products with competitive advantages, aiming for export, including a macadamia nut growing area of 6,000-8,000 hectares. Simultaneously, develop the area of potential crops such as chestnut trees for nuts, persimmons (Japanese persimmons), etc. |
Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung, Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: To prepare a good source of forestry seedlings in general, including some types of trees such as macadamia and chestnut, the unit has conducted reviews, directly inspected, and worked with seed production and business units to guide and urge the implementation of production and sowing work to ensure compliance with regulations; deployed and disseminated guiding documents on the management of forestry seedlings; required nursery owners to comply with seed management regulations, only put into production and business seedlings with clear documentation and origin; carried out good care and pest control; only sold seedlings that meet the standards for planting and were responsible for the quality of the seedlings they produced…
With close attention and practical support from all levels and sectors, and the proactive efforts of seedling suppliers, it is believed that the development of macadamia, Japanese rose, and chestnut trees in the province will achieve positive results. This will contribute to increasing people's income and help achieve the goals and tasks of agricultural and forestry development in the province.
