The water filtration system of Khe Cham Coal Company - TKV, invested in since 2011, consists of two simultaneously operating pure water filtration stations with a total water treatment capacity of 48 m3/hour, using urban tap water as input. With the most advanced reverse osmosis (RO) technology currently available, the filtered water meets the food safety and hygiene standards of the Ministry of Health . After filtration, the purified water is transported to the mine through a specialized pipeline system. A portion of the water is then channeled to the area where meals are prepared for the miners' shift. In addition, the filtered water is also used to make refreshing tea for workers after their shifts.
Every day, the Mechanical Workshop staff checks the technical parameters of the incoming water source, filtration pressure, and output water quality. Filter cartridges and RO membranes are replaced regularly according to the prescribed operating hours, not waiting until they fail. Monthly and quarterly, the company collaborates with competent health authorities to collect water samples at various locations for physico-chemical and microbiological testing. The results show that 100% of the water samples meet or exceed the prescribed standards for direct drinking water.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Thai, Chairman of the Company's Trade Union, said: On average, Khe Cham Coal Company spends about 300-500 million VND annually on the periodic repair and replacement of pure water filtration stations, hoping that when miners feel the thoughtful care in terms of drinking water and meals, they will dedicate themselves fully and remain committed to the company for the long term.
Thong Nhat Coal Company – TKV is also a shining example of self-sufficiency in providing high-quality drinking water for its workers. Accordingly, the company has proactively invested in large-scale industrial water filtration systems in both core areas: the production mining area and the office area. For drinking water supplied underground, the company provides an average of 4,000 cubic meters of water per day. Workers on shift do not need to bring personal water bottles; they can still drink water when needed.

Not stopping there, Thong Nhat Coal Mine has built a closed-loop bottling and packaging line. Workers in this area must wear sterile protective clothing, masks, and medical gloves. Each batch of water leaving the factory has a tracking code and a sample is kept for comparison. The finished Lo Tri bottled water is distributed to shift change centers, workshops on the surface, and underground mines. The pure water bearing the Lo Tri brand not only evokes the locality and the long history of Thong Nhat Coal Mine's operations, but has now become a symbol of quality, a brand affirmation of the unit's commitment to caring for the well-being of its workers.
Mr. Vu Tran Thanh, Deputy Manager of the Life Support Workshop, Thong Nhat Coal Company – TKV, affirmed: The company's Lo Tri water filtration and bottling process strictly adheres to ISO 22000 standards for food safety management. After preliminary treatment, the raw water passes through a multi-stage filtration system to remove suspended impurities, then through an activated carbon filter to remove odors and residual chlorine. Next, the water is pushed through a fine filter system and an RO ultrafiltration membrane system with a pore size of only 0.0001 micron, completely removing heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses. Before being used, the water undergoes quality testing using a standard-compliant testing pen.

Currently, not only Khe Cham and Thong Nhat, but most large underground coal mining units within TKV (Vietnam Coal Corporation) have invested in internal purified water production systems. This investment brings many great benefits, especially in proactively controlling water quality and ensuring the health of workers. In addition, self-producing drinking water also helps companies optimize costs, saving more compared to buying water from the market; and building a modern and professional corporate image.
