Amidst the harsh sun and wind of the central region of Vietnam, the vast expanse of water in Tra Loc swamp appears cool and crystal clear, like a priceless gift from nature.

Attracting visitors with its unique ecosystem.
Tram Tra Loc is an ecotourism destination covering approximately 100 hectares, with a central lake of about 10 hectares, surrounded by pristine forest and rare sandy vegetation. Locally, "Tram" refers to a large natural lake nestled in the sand dunes, surrounded by forest, creating a unique ecological space.
Tra Loc wetland boasts an incredibly rich and diverse ecosystem. Despite being nestled amidst arid white sand dunes, this freshwater wetland never dries up and provides a cool, refreshing atmosphere year-round. The wetland's surface is covered with lotus, water lilies, ferns, and reeds, blending with the green of the forest to create a pristine, tranquil, and vibrant natural landscape. During the flowering season, the entire area is bathed in pink, and a delicate fragrance permeates the air, evoking a peaceful and captivating beauty.
Surrounding the swamp are thousands of ancient trees providing shade, creating a beautiful landscape and contributing to regulating the climate of the entire region. According to local people, this forest has existed for hundreds of years and is considered a priceless gift from nature. Beyond its scenic value, Tra Loc swamp also plays a crucial role in maintaining freshwater sources, providing aquatic resources, and protecting the ecological environment. Therefore, it is always cherished and preserved by the people as an inseparable part of their lives.
Mr. Le Quang Dieu, Head of Tra Loc village, shared that Tra Loc wetland is attractive because of its almost intact ecosystem, preserved by the people for many generations. Currently, the locality has established regulations to protect the primary forest in order to preserve the landscape and conserve the diverse ecosystem, contributing to creating a cool green space all year round, acting as a "lung" to regulate the climate for the entire region.
Tra Loc wetland attracts tourists with its close-to-nature experiences. In recent years, ecotourism has gradually developed at Tra Loc wetland. The thatched huts along the lake and the rustic floating restaurants have become ideal stops for tourists to fish, enjoy local fish specialties, or simply breathe in the fresh air.

Ms. Le Ngoc Nhu Phuong (from Hue City) said that the scenery here is peaceful and cool, like a "natural air conditioner," making it very suitable for weekend getaways. Especially, besides being attracted by the pristine and rustic beauty, visitors can also enjoy traditional dishes with authentic countryside flavors.
Beyond its natural beauty, Tra Loc wetland also preserves a unique cultural heritage with the Tra Loc Wetland Breaking Festival, held annually in early September. This festival is uniquely special, vividly recreating the customs of clearing water sources and fishing practiced by the local people. Amidst the vast expanse of the emerald green wetland, the festival unfolds in a lively atmosphere with solemn rituals and offerings, praying for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and a prosperous life. The most captivating highlight is the "breaking the wetland" – where people collectively enter the water, using baskets, nets, and traps to catch fish, creating a vibrant, joyful, and energetic spectacle. More than just a folk cultural activity, the festival also demonstrates community solidarity and the preservation of long-standing traditional values of the people of Tra Loc.
In 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province issued a decision recognizing Tra Loc as a community-based ecotourism destination. Amidst the white sands and windswept landscape, Tra Loc wetland quietly reflects the clouds in the sky. Without noise or ostentation, this place possesses a simple yet profound beauty, truly deserving of the title "green gem" of Quang Tri, where nature and people blend harmoniously in a peaceful way of life.
Unleash your potential
Over the past period, Vinh Dinh commune has focused on investing in and coordinating with relevant provincial agencies to gradually preserve and promote the natural landscape value at Tra Loc wetland. The locality prioritizes maintaining the natural ecosystem, protecting the forest area, lake, and surrounding landscape of the wetland, while also raising public awareness of environmental protection.

Along with that, tourism infrastructure has gradually received investment: Construction of a road system connecting to the wetland area, rest stops, food courts serving tourists, and experiential services associated with local specialties. Tra Loc Wetland is becoming increasingly well-known to tourists, estimated at around 70,000-75,000 visitors per year, especially during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the time of the traditional Tra Loc Wetland Festival.
To make the "green gem" of Tra Loc wetland shine on the tourism map, preserving the ecosystem and developing sustainable tourism must be prioritized. Local authorities and residents are gradually building a rational exploitation model that both protects the environment and creates long-term livelihoods. In reality, the tourism potential of Tra Loc wetland has not been fully exploited. Infrastructure, accommodation services, and experiential products are still basic, and promotional activities are not strong enough. Meanwhile, the demand for ecotourism and nature-based tourism is increasing.
Vinh Dinh commune has identified the development of ecotourism associated with Tra Loc wetland as one of the important directions to effectively exploit the potential and advantages of the locality. In 2026, the commune will focus on researching, developing, and issuing a specialized resolution on the development of trade, services, and tourism, with Tra Loc wetland identified as a key highlight.

According to Ms. To Thi Hai Yen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Dinh commune, in order to make Tra Loc wetland an attractive destination, the commune will focus on preserving and promoting the value of the natural ecosystem, maintaining the forest and lake landscape and ecological environment; gradually improving tourism infrastructure, upgrading roads, parking lots, service points and experiential spaces for tourists; developing community tourism, encouraging people to participate in providing culinary services, agricultural experiences, and local specialty products. In addition, the commune will link tourism development with cultural preservation, especially promoting the traditional Tra Loc festival and rural cultural values; strengthening tourism promotion and linking with provincial tours and routes to make Tra Loc wetland an attractive destination for tourists visiting Quang Tri. Through this, the ecotourism potential of Tra Loc wetland will be gradually and effectively exploited, contributing to the promotion of trade and services, increasing income for local people, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
Developing tourism in Tra Loc wetland is not just an economic endeavor, but also a journey of preserving natural resources and local culture. The involvement of the government, businesses, and the local community will determine the success of this ecotourism model. When its potential is unlocked in the right direction, Tra Loc wetland will not only be a destination for locals but can also become an attractive ecotourism destination – a place where visitors can come to relax, experience, and fully appreciate the rustic and peaceful beauty of Quang Tri province.
