Unlocking the potential of Bien Hoa Ancient Citadel

On the bustling 30-4 Street (Tran Bien Ward, Dong Nai Province), there is a place where time seems to stand still. That is Bien Hoa Ancient Citadel (also known as Ken Citadel) – an architectural masterpiece steeped in history. This site was once a formidable fortress under the Nguyen Dynasty, before being rebuilt more solidly by the French. Today, much of the story and important traces of the citadel remain hidden behind its gates, making this heritage site a vibrant yet quiet "museum" in the heart of the city.

The most striking feature of Bien Hoa Ancient Citadel is its two old French-style villas, with their deep red tiled roofs covered in moss over the years. The architecture here is a sophisticated blend of East Asian and classic French styles, evident in the large arched windows and harmoniously designed vaulted ceilings. Stepping inside, the long corridors with rows of columns and antique lanterns evoke a sense of nostalgia, transporting visitors back in time.

In 2013, this site was recognized as a National Historical Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The Department of Construction is currently implementing a plan to create a square in the Bien Hoa Citadel area to make it easier for people to access the historical site and have the opportunity to learn more about the history, culture, and value of the heritage.

Unlocking the potential of the ancient citadel not only helps preserve a unique architectural structure but also serves as a way to educate and inspire pride in local history, acting as a "bridge" between the past and the present, and enriching the spiritual life of the people of Dong Nai.
