Where the sweet fruits gather
With 45 ethnic groups living there, the journey of those who left their homeland to settle in Dak Lak not only brought with them the desire to establish a stable life, but also the fruits and farming experience of their hometowns. Then, thanks to the sunshine and winds of the vast forests, and the fertility of the red basalt soil, plant varieties from North to South quickly took root, bloomed, and bore fruit in this new land.
During the fruit ripening season, walking through residential areas in the center or rural areas of Dak Lak province, it's not difficult to spot branches laden with ripe yellow mangoes reaching over fences, jackfruit trees heavily laden with fruit, or trellises of ripe pink dragon fruit basking in the summer sun.

Starting from small gardens around homes, many types of fruit have gradually become staple crops, bringing high economic value to farmers. Today, the model of intercropping fruit trees in coffee plantations has been widely adopted in many localities. Walking among the lush green coffee plants, one can easily spot tall Dona and Ri6 durian trees or branches laden with avocado fruit.
Thanks to favorable soil and climate, Dak Lak has developed specialized fruit-growing regions. In Ea Kar, the vibrant red of early-ripening lychees creates a significant competitive advantage in the market. Meanwhile, the border region of Ea Sup transforms the harsh weather into a unique advantage for developing high-quality mangoes.
Asserting its position
Dak Lak is asserting its position as one of the key fruit-producing regions in the country, with a total area of over 79,000 hectares. No longer practicing traditional farming methods, farmers have proactively applied scientific and technical advancements, closely monitored disease outbreaks, and adhered to meticulous care record-keeping procedures. This professionalism in production has resulted in products of consistent quality, meeting the stringent standards of the market.

A typical example is the story of Mr. Y Zon Mlô's family in Krông Búk commune. Early on, recognizing durian as a lucrative crop, Mr. Y Zon boldly invested in a modern orchard, applying an automatic irrigation system and adhering to strict care procedures. Not stopping at a family scale, he also proactively collaborated with neighboring households to build a concentrated raw material area, standardizing processes to obtain a certified planting area code. As a result, the linked production area has been granted a code for official export to the Chinese market.
The economic development model of Mr. Y Zon's family demonstrates the strong spread of standardized production thinking across the fruit-growing regions of Dak Lak. Over 320 growing areas and 54 packaging facilities have been granted export codes, a result of the transformation from fragmented, small-scale farming to a collaborative mindset, forming large-scale raw material areas to meet market demands. This is not only a "passport" for Dak Lak's fruit to reach the global market, but also a launching pad for building a green, modern, and sustainable agricultural sector.
Among fruit products, durian has emerged as a key product with the highest export value in the province. With over 41,000 hectares and a production of over 446,000 tons, Dak Lak durian has brought in approximately 1.1 billion USD, contributing nearly 30% to the total durian export value of the whole country.
This achievement has not only transformed the appearance of many rural areas, bringing prosperity to farmers, but has also been elevated by the province to a provincial-level festival. The first Dak Lak Provincial Durian Festival in 2026 will take place from August 15th to September 2nd, 2026. This is an opportunity to promote the image, affirm the brand and position of Dak Lak durian in the domestic and international markets.
