Big festival
Leaving the screening of film 9 at nearly 5 p.m., Truc Vy (living in Ward 6, Da Lat City) continued to line up to receive tickets to see the next film, Children in the Mist. She could not hide her joy: “Living and working in Da Lat City, I do not always have the opportunity to watch independent, artistic films. Therefore, I have closely followed the screening schedule and booked tickets for other films such as: Glorious Ashes, Hoa Nha, Love Story in the Narrow Alley… I really hope that not only this Film Festival but also similar film events will be held more often in Da Lat City.”

Hong Tham (living in Ward 4, Da Lat City) also felt excited because according to her, when following the list of films being screened this time, there were many films that she had missed before. Hong Tham shared: “For me, this is an opportunity to watch my favorite films, such as Children in the Mist. Before, I really wanted to watch it but it was not screened in Da Lat. Therefore, this is a very valuable opportunity”. She also said that at this Film Festival, she really wanted to watch films filmed in Da Lat City to see how different they are in real life and on film.
For Hong Tham, the fact that people are looking forward to and arranging their work to buy tickets to see the films of the Film Festival; the bustling and crowded atmosphere at Lam Vien Square - the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies - is a vivid proof of the city's people's interest in this event. At the same time, she hopes that in the future, not only the Film Festival but also other art events will be held in Da Lat more often.
"Da Lat city is cold but the Da Lat audience is very warm when welcoming this Film Festival. As someone who has had many roles in Da Lat since 1993, 1994 and most recently in 2022 in the movie Em va Trinh, this city left me with many beautiful memories. The special thing about Da Lat city is that it is always suitable for filming, even in the rainy season it is still beautiful. Filmmakers all want to film here. Creating the atmosphere and space in the film is very important. And here we have it all!". Meritorious Artist TRAN LUC

Mr. Tran Quang, Deputy General Director of Cinestar Lam Dong cinema cluster, said that before the festival took place, this unit prepared 2 cinema clusters in Da Lat city and Duc Trong district, each cluster had 3 screening rooms, reserved 9-11 shows/day spread out across time slots to show participating films for free. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh Trung, Head of Marketing Department, manager of Cinestar cinema clusters, also said: “Every day at Cinestar Da Lat cinema cluster, about 1,500-2,000 audiences come to watch movies. The audience occupancy rate for many screenings is about 80%, although in reality the number of tickets registered online can reach 100%. Meanwhile, the cinema cluster in Duc Trong district, because it is far away, does not attract as many customers, but also attracts about 500-700 guests/day, with the highest occupancy rate for movies ranging from 40%-50%, with some films reaching up to 80%”.
In addition to the two cinema complexes mentioned above, film screenings are also held at the Army Academy and some outdoor centers in the districts: Lac Duong, Lam Ha, Dam Rong... At the mobile film screenings, some film crews are also organized to debut and interact directly with the audience.

According to the authorities, there were 190,000 visitors, including 8,000 international visitors, coming to Da Lat City, Lam Dong during the festival. Even on the opening night, despite the cold weather in the outdoor stage area of Lam Vien Square, thousands of spectators still attended, filling the stands. Many spectators stood along the red carpet area to enthusiastically cheer for the artists. Perhaps, there are few opening ceremonies of Vietnamese Film Festivals that are as crowded and impressive as this one.

The successful lesson in the cooperation between cinema and tourism of Da Lat City, Lam Dong has many causes and comes from many sides. According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong Province, first of all, Da Lat - Lam Dong can be seen as a large natural film studio, with many favorable conditions for the development of the film industry such as the advantages of nature, environment, people... The locality also has many potential cultural and historical heritages... meeting the needs of context and materials for filmmakers to exploit.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Department of Cinema, said: “Up to now, Da Lat city has been a locality chosen by many film crews because of its beautiful nature and many other very suitable conditions. For this festival, the most impressive thing for the film artists and delegates when attending is the environment, setting, natural space, beautiful and poetic nature, cool climate, friendly and gentle Da Lat people”.
But that is only a necessary condition. For cinema to develop successfully, what is more important is a series of mechanisms and policies to stimulate the development of cinema such as: creating the most favorable conditions for investors to come to Lam Dong - Da Lat to build large film studios; incentives for filmmakers to come to film, take backgrounds...
Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai said that in 2022, the locality welcomed more than 100 film crews to Da Lat City. Film crews visiting scenic spots were exempted from fees because the province identified them as tourists and needed to be cherished. Regarding the licensing of film crews, it only took 2 days and the locality has not received any complaints. "We are proud to welcome filmmakers and hope to have more film crews coming to Da Lat City," Mr. Hoai emphasized.
Not only the government, but also businesses in Da Lat also join hands for the common goal, according to Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai, during the Film Festival week, businesses in Da Lat have supported prices from 10% to 30% for delegates attending. In addition, many areas and attractions such as Fresh Garden, Van Thanh vegetable and flower farm... also offer free admission for film crews and artists. We have also selected areas and attractions with their own unique marks to introduce to guest groups. Through visiting, artists and film creators will have ideas and inspirations nurtured from the above space.
Creating favorable conditions is a way to attract filmmakers to continue to develop ideas and content to produce good films about Da Lat City, Lam Dong. It is not an exaggeration to say that cinema can be seen as an ambassador to help promote the image, land and people of Da Lat - Lam Dong; contributing to promoting and stimulating the development of local tourism. Appearing more and more in famous cinema works has brought about a special influence and boost to local tourism as well as improving the cultural and spiritual life of the people.
