Historical imprint of the land of steel
After a series of heavy defeats, the Saigon regime regrouped its forces, establishing a "Remote Defense Line," using Du Long – the northern gateway to Phan Rang – as a key point of contact. They were determined to fight to the death, turning Ninh Thuan into a "steel shield" to halt the rapid advance of our troops.
In that situation, with the spirit of "speed, boldness, and decisive victory," the army and people of Ninh Thuan, under the direction of the Party Committee and the Command of Military Region 6, closely coordinated with the main forces, creating a combined strength to shatter the enemy's "steel shield." Comrade Ho Mai, former Political Commissar of the Ninh Thuan Provincial Military Command, said: Implementing the policy of the Politburo, the Regional Party Committee and Military Region 6, the Ninh Thuan Provincial Party Committee directed the withdrawal of local troops from Bac Ai and Anh Dung districts, along with some other units of the province, to reinforce Battalion 610, tasked with holding Deo Cau Pass, blocking enemy counterattacks from Thanh Son airfield, protecting Krong Pha district, and ready to coordinate with the main forces to liberate Phan Rang. In particular, the 311th Special Forces Company, with its courageous and resourceful spirit, fought alongside the militia and local people, bravely repelling 16 enemy counterattacks and contributing to the overall victory.
On April 14, 1975, our troops launched the offensive, artillery raining fire on enemy strongholds, infantry advancing swiftly, capturing the Du Long district capital and other key positions. On the morning of April 16, the attacking forces launched simultaneous, coordinated assaults, flanking the enemy and causing their complete disintegration. At 9:30 a.m. that same day, the revolutionary flag flew atop the Provincial Administrative Building, marking the complete liberation of Ninh Thuan. The "remote defense line" was shattered, opening the way to liberating Saigon, liberating the South, and unifying the country.
Opening a new era of development.
Half a century has passed since liberation and 33 years since the re-establishment of the province (April 1, 1992 - April 1, 2025). The Party Committee, government, and people of Ninh Thuan are always proud and excited about the achievements made over the past period; at the same time, they deeply understand the challenges and difficulties to work together to build a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland. Upholding the glorious revolutionary traditions of the nation, with the spirit of unity, innovation, creativity, and daring to think and act of the Party Committee, government, and people of the province, along with the attention and support from the central government, they have transformed potential and advantages into strong development.
Despite facing difficulties and hardships, Ninh Thuan has overcome challenges and exploited its existing potential in energy, renewable energy (wind and solar power), tourism, and high-tech agriculture. Over the past 10 years, per capita income has quadrupled, and the poverty rate has decreased from 9.34% to 2.69%. Ninh Thuan's determination, perseverance, and creativity are transforming challenges into opportunities, paving the way for sustainable and hopeful development. Implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 14th Provincial Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, despite numerous difficulties and challenges, Ninh Thuan has achieved significant results; socio -economic development has been comprehensive; it is estimated that 16 out of 18 targets of the Provincial Party Congress Resolution have been completed; the economic scale has increased 1.7 times compared to the beginning of the term, and the average GRDP growth rate has reached nearly 9% per year, placing it among the top provinces nationwide. The economic structure has shifted in the right direction, transforming Ninh Thuan from a disadvantaged province to a middle-income province. The investment and business environment has improved. Essential inter-regional infrastructure, connecting and integrating multiple purposes, has received focused investment, effectively promoting the fields of culture, society, environment, public health care, and support for policy beneficiaries. Significant progress has been made in preserving and promoting cultural values. Disaster prevention and adaptation to climate change have been proactively addressed. Social welfare issues have received due attention; the socio-economic conditions of ethnic minority and mountainous areas have improved, and the quality of life for the people has been enhanced.
During his visit to Ninh Thuan at the end of 2024, General Secretary To Lam emphasized: Ninh Thuan, strategically located in an important geo-economic, political, and military position, is rich in historical, cultural, and revolutionary traditions, and is resilient and indomitable. Ninh Thuan's history is a journey of struggle and development through many periods, serving as an important revolutionary base that contributed to the glorious history of the nation; today, that history continues to be preserved and revived as a source of inspiration for sustainable and creative development... Ninh Thuan has many potentials and advantages in marine economy, seaports, and logistics service centers... especially in energy development (solar power, wind power, nuclear power...), contributing to providing clean energy for the whole country and promoting green economic growth; it is an opportunity for Ninh Thuan to lead in the global energy transition trend and a foundation for attracting energy-intensive industries; At the same time, Ninh Thuan possesses rare ecological diversity, numerous pristine beaches, unique natural beauty, rich local culture, and many famous tourist destinations. These are the conditions, strengths, and potential for developing many types of high-quality, world-class resort tourism. Ninh Thuan also has many unique and distinctive products that have become famous brands, such as grapes, apples, onions, garlic, and shrimp larvae. Ninh Thuan's potential is enormous, requiring a new, contemporary, global perspective, reflecting the spirit of the era of growth, to awaken the potential of the land and people of Ninh Thuan.
