The mark of Thai Nguyen agricultural products

The year 2025 concluded with many important milestones for the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) program of Thai Nguyen province after the merger. The scale of products expanded, quality continued to improve, creating momentum to boost the rural economy and enhance the position of Thai Nguyen agricultural products in domestic and international markets.

Breakthrough in quantity, elevated in quality.

Prior to the merger, Thai Nguyen had 315 OCOP products rated 3 stars or higher, including 177 3-star products, 94 4-star products, and 6 5-star products at the national level. The evaluation and ranking process was maintained systematically, with 50 products re-evaluated and 7 products upgraded, including 4 products that reached 5 stars.

Bac Kan boasts 245 OCOP products rated 3 stars or higher, including 4 national 5-star products, 21 4-star products, and 220 3-star products. It is also one of the localities with the highest percentage of 5-star products nationwide, and has established 13 raw material areas meeting organic, VietGAP, and GACP-WHO standards. This standardized raw material source provides a crucial foundation for high-quality products, many of which have penetrated demanding markets such as Europe and Japan .

To date, Thai Nguyen province has 561 OCOP products; of which 10 products have achieved 5-star national rating, ranking third nationwide. The province has 113 4-star products, with 323 participating entities, of which cooperatives account for 68.4%, continuing to play a core role in the development of commercial agriculture .

The program not only increases in quantity but also focuses on improving quality through the formation of concentrated raw material areas, standardizing production processes according to VietGAP, organic, ISO, and HACCP standards; building a supply chain from production to consumption and expanding markets. Many tea, vermicelli, mushrooms, and medicinal herbs products are now available in major supermarket chains and specialty stores nationwide.

Ms. Tong Thi Xuyen, Director of Hoan Xuyen Safe Tea Cooperative (Vo Tranh commune), said: "We are linked with 30 households, with over 15 hectares of tea plantations granted planting area codes. Our Non Tam Tra tea product, which meets 4-star standards, has contributed to elevating the Vo Tranh tea brand and expanding the market into the high-end segment."

Meanwhile, Mr. To Van Khiem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Khe Coc Safe Tea Cooperative (Vo Tranh commune), commented: Production according to VietGAP and organic standards and OCOP certification helps increase tea prices by 30-50%; some shipments meeting export standards to Europe have seen increases of up to 100%. Investing in quality is the most sustainable direction for development.

Promoting and spreading the OCOP brand.

Before and after the merger, trade promotion and marketing activities for OCOP products were implemented more vigorously, creating a foundation for market connections in the new phase.

Thai Nguyen is accelerating digitalization, building a website for managing and promoting OCOP (One Commune One Product), supporting businesses in opening online stores and virtual reality booths; granting OCOP signs to more than 360 stores; organizing fairs and exhibitions and participating in many major national events.

The province continues to support cooperatives in building websites and listing their products on Alibaba.com, Shopee, Sendo, Lazada, etc. As a result, sales for many businesses have increased by 20-50%, with some products such as Tai Hoan vermicelli and Hao Dat tea seeing increases of up to 70-100%.

Mr. Pham Tien Dat, Deputy Director of Hao Dat Cooperative (Tan Cuong commune), said: "The province's support in digitalization, traceability, packaging and labeling, and distribution connections has helped Hao Dat products access new markets faster. Through trade fairs and trade promotion programs, the cooperative has signed many large contracts with supermarket chains and specialty product channels."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoan, Director of Tai Hoan Cooperative (Con Minh commune), shared: "Tai Hoan vermicelli has been recognized as a 5-star national OCOP product and has been exported to Europe. With the province's support for digital transformation, traceability, and expanded trade promotion, both production volume and value have increased significantly. We are investing in a new production line to target more demanding markets."

Meanwhile, Mr. Ha Van Cuong, Director of Bac Kan Agricultural Products Joint Stock Company, said: Bac Kan Turmeric, which has achieved OCOP 4-star status, is being developed based on three pillars. We are building a brand with local identity, upgrading processes to international standards, and accessing the markets of Japan, South Korea, and the EU.

Packaging innovation, QR code applications, and digital transformation help to better manage raw material areas, while increasing product value and bringing practical benefits to farmers.

Towards sustainable development

For the period 2026-2030, Thai Nguyen aims to elevate the OCOP program with key objectives including: developing 100 new products, upgrading 55% of existing products, and striving to have 5 products achieve national 5-star OCOP status.

Digital transformation continues to play a pivotal role in governance, traceability, packaging design, and intellectual property protection.

Mr. Nguyen My Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized: OCOP not only improves quality and increases income for people, but also contributes to the formation of a model new rural area with a well-structured production chain and a brand that is competitive enough.

With a new vision and a comprehensive system of solutions, OCOP Thai Nguyen enters the 2026-2030 period with the determination to build a synchronized and modern ecosystem of agricultural products, tourism, and services. This is an important foundation for the OCOP Thai Nguyen brand to continue to spread and expand further in the national and international markets.
