Ronaldo's team disappointed. |
After a bitter exit from the AFC Champions League Elite semi-finals, Al Nassr continued to suffer defeat against their direct competitors in the championship race.
Al Nassr led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Ayman Yahya but lost 2-3. Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante and Houssem Aouar all scored to help the visitors complete a spectacular comeback. This result left Al Nassr 10 points behind Al Ittihad in the standings, while there were only 4 rounds left in the season.
Despite maintaining his impressive scoring record, Ronaldo is almost certain to end his fourth consecutive year without a trophy. Since winning the 2021 Coppa Italia with Juventus, the Portuguese striker has yet to win any more trophies. In 2023, Al Nassr won the Arab Club Champions Cup, but this was only considered a friendly tournament.
Not only was Al Ittihad "cut off" in the championship race, Al Nassr also fell out of the top 3 in the domestic league and is at risk of not being able to participate in the Asian Cup next season.
Returning to the Saudi Pro League championship race, Benzema and his teammates have a big advantage, with a 6-point lead over the second-placed team, Al Hilal. Benzema has the opportunity to lift the Saudi Arabia championship before Ronaldo, even though he arrived in the Middle East a year later than his former teammate.
