| The Cù Mông Tunnel on the North-South Expressway. |
The project has a total length of nearly 5.5km; of which, the Cu Mong tunnel is approximately 2.6km long, located on the Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh expressway, with an operating capacity of 2 lanes. This is one of four large tunnels belonging to the road tunnel project through Deo Ca Pass, including Deo Ca, Co Ma, Cu Mong and Hai Van 2.
Since its commissioning in 2019, the project has reduced travel time across the pass from 30 minutes to just 6 minutes, while ensuring traffic safety.
Initially, the project will expand the road from 2 to 4 lanes, with a roadbed width of 22m. The right tunnel will undergo road surface renovation and the tunnel equipment system will be adjusted to suit one-way operation with 2 lanes. The left tunnel will have its components completed: tunnel lining, cement concrete road surface, drainage system, electrical and mechanical systems, fire protection, and operation.
The bridges along the route are being developed to accommodate 6 lanes; the existing bridge will be widened to the right of the route from 10.5m to 14.75m, with 3 lanes; a new parallel bridge section will be constructed 0.5m away from the old bridge, with a width of 14.75m.
