Special classes
Arriving at Song Tu Tay Island, walking along the concrete road shaded by the banyan trees, we suddenly heard the voices of teachers and students in a classroom on the island practicing the lyrics of the song Tien Quan Ca. The singing of teachers and students blended with the sound of the waves. The class was taught by teacher Le Thanh Chien (Cam Thinh Dong commune, Cam Ranh city). On Mr. Chien's desk were full of books for students from grades 1 to 5, even toys for kindergarten students. Mr. Chien shared: "The school here is very special, including all classes at the primary and kindergarten levels. The first day I came here to teach, having to teach students of all ages at the same time made me encounter many difficulties and confusion. But gradually I got used to it, I learned how to adjust teaching and learning so that students could absorb the lessons, ensuring the study program".

On the islands: Truong Sa, Sinh Ton, Da Tay..., on each island, the Party, State and Khanh Hoa province have invested in building schools that are spacious, clean and beautiful with full facilities and equipment for teaching and learning of teachers and students on remote islands; spacious schoolyards with shady green trees, playgrounds, physical education areas with full equipment such as: slides, bouncy animals, seesaws, swings... Each school has only 2 teachers in charge of 2 levels of preschool and primary school, taking turns teaching. Teacher Luu Quoc Thinh - Da Tay Primary School (from Van Long commune, Van Ninh district) said: "Although teaching on the island has many difficulties, we always try to overcome them, helping students absorb knowledge best, so that when they return to the mainland, they can still keep up with the training program".
Teaching and learning on Truong Sa Island is an emotional and meaningful journey. Teachers at the forefront of the sea are not only those who impart knowledge but also contribute to preserving and protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. They have been making constant efforts to provide students with solid knowledge, nurturing the dreams and aspirations of the young generation.
Proud to teach at Truong Sa
When he was in college, teacher Le Thanh Chien always dreamed of setting foot on the sacred sea and islands of the Fatherland. While teaching at Cam Lap Primary and Secondary School, Mr. Chien wrote an application to volunteer to teach in Truong Sa and was fortunate to be accepted, fulfilling his dream. "The years living and working in Truong Sa are truly meaningful memories in life that not everyone has. Therefore, I always have love and try my best to impart the best knowledge to students on the island," Mr. Chien shared.

With a love for the sea and Truong Sa islands, teacher Truong Hong Linh (Xuan Dong commune, Dien Khanh district) has volunteered to teach at Sinh Ton Primary School since 2023. Teacher Linh shared: “Previously, I taught at Dien Xuan Primary School. When Khanh Hoa province recruited teachers to Truong Sa, I registered and was accepted. Being able to teach here is a great honor, helping me to study, practice skills, knowledge, courage, and health. In particular, with my youth, I also want to contribute to imparting knowledge to students on remote islands, contributing to firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland”.
Although he knew that teaching in Truong Sa had many difficulties and was different from the mainland, Mr. Luu Quoc Thinh still chose to teach on Da Tay island. During his years living and teaching here, the affection of the soldiers, people and students on the island was an encouragement for him to overcome all difficulties, work with peace of mind, and contribute to the future green shoots of Truong Sa. “I have spent many years teaching in island villages in Van Thanh commune (Van Ninh). However, coming to Truong Sa is much different. However, here the soldiers and people live very united, everyone is always ready to help each other. During storms, the soldiers and people on the island are always there to help us reinforce the school; share bundles of green vegetables. Those are very precious and touching feelings. The days teaching in Truong Sa will certainly be beautiful memories in my journey as a teacher,” Mr. Thinh shared.

Before boarding the boat to return to the mainland, students from Truong Sa Island sang us the song "My Hometown in Truong Sa": "My hometown is in Truong Sa/The islands are submerged and floating/My hometown has the sea and sky/The four seasons are vast and green/Born in Truong Sa/I am a child of the sea...". The touching lyrics of the song made everyone feel more deeply the resilience of the people at the forefront of the storm.
