Samsung has just introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold, the company's first triple-folding smartphone. The device demonstrates the South Korean company's engineering prowess in this segment, although foldable phones haven't yet gained widespread acceptance among mainstream consumers.
The Galaxy Z TriFold features two hinges, allowing it to be opened for use as a large tablet. When closed, the external screen measures 6.5 inches (1080p resolution), similar to many standard smartphones.
When unfolded, the product offers a tablet-like experience with a 10-inch screen (2160 x 1584 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate), larger than the Galaxy Z Fold7 (8 inches). In unfolded mode, each screen section can run an independent application, equivalent to three 6.5-inch smartphones placed side-by-side.
On the Z TriFold, users can activate DeX mode to use it like a large laptop or tablet. With other devices, this feature only works when connected to an external display. In DeX mode, the Z TriFold supports 4 workspaces, each capable of opening 5 applications simultaneously.
At its thinnest point, the Z TriFold is 3.9 mm thick (containing the physical SIM tray), the thickest part of the screen is 4.2 mm (containing the USB-C port), and the rest is 4 mm thick. When folded, the overall thickness of the device is 12.9 mm, thicker than the Galaxy S25 Ultra (8.2 mm) and Galaxy Z Fold7 (8.9 mm), but not significantly thicker than the Z Fold6 (12.1 mm).

Inside the device is a 5,600 mAh battery, the largest among Samsung's foldable smartphones. The company claims the Z TriFold can play videos continuously for 17 hours in extended mode.
To reduce durability risks, Samsung says it has refined the hinge, aluminum frame, and screen technology on the Z TriFold. If screen repairs are needed, the company will offer a 50% discount on the first repair.
According to Bloomberg , the Galaxy Z TriFold is quite easy to use. If folded incorrectly, the device will vibrate and display a warning. The back of the phone is made from "glass-ceramic fiber reinforced polymer," supporting the IP48 water resistance rating.
Samsung still integrates three rear cameras into the Galaxy Z TriFold, including a 200 MP main camera (f/1.7 aperture), a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10 MP telephoto camera. Both the outer and inner screens have 10 MP selfie cameras. The device uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and 16 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with the Galaxy AI suite of tools. Key features such as Generative Edit, Photo Assist, and Writing Assist are all available. Users also receive a 6-month trial of the Google AI Pro package.
Samsung launched the Z TriFold a few months before Apple was expected to announce its first foldable iPhone. Based on rumors, Apple's device could launch later next year with a book-like folding design, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold.

Before Samsung, Huawei was the first to launch a triple-folding smartphone with the Mate XT in 2024. In China, the Z TriFold will face significant competition from Huawei, even though Samsung's product uses standard Android and is compatible with more applications.
Compared to the Mate XT, the Z TriFold differs in its folding mechanism. The Samsung device has a hinge that folds in from both sides, while the Mate XT folds in a Z shape. Despite the different design, the Z TriFold has fairly similar dimensions and weight to the Mate XT (Z TriFold is 12.9 mm thick and weighs 309 g compared to 12.8 mm thick and 298 g).
Samsung's foldable smartphone sales have recently been higher than its predecessor, but still smaller compared to regular models like the Galaxy S25 Ultra. If the launch schedule remains unchanged, the company expects to unveil the Galaxy S26 series early next year.
Samsung plans to sell the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea starting December 12th for approximately $2,450 . The company also plans to distribute the product to other markets such as the US, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE.
