Strengthening reforestation efforts.

People in Mau Lam commune take care of the production forest.

To improve the quality of planted forests, the Nhu Thanh Protective Forest Management Board has implemented the goal of protecting the assigned forest area, improving the efficiency of sustainable exploitation and use of land resources, forest resources, and existing infrastructure and technology; forming concentrated, specialized, and intensive large-scale production forest areas for commercial timber products, linking forest planting with processing and timber product consumption markets; improving the efficiency of forest production and use, attracting and creating more jobs, increasing income for forest workers; protecting the ecological environment, contributing to poverty reduction and rural development in the area. The focus is on planting forests with high-quality seedlings such as tissue-cultured acacia and seed-bearing mahogany intercropped with acacia to increase income for households contracted to manage forest land and forests. In 2025, the Nhu Thanh Protective Forest Management Board planted 250 hectares of production forest after logging, achieving 125% of the plan.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thai, Head of the Forest Development Department of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: “In recent years, Thanh Hoa province's reforestation efforts have achieved many important results in terms of both socio -economic and environmental aspects. Currently, Thanh Hoa province has nearly 650,000 hectares of forest. By 2025, the province will plant 12,500 hectares of new forest, reaching 125% of the plan. On average, the province will plant 10,000 hectares of forest annually; and regenerate 40,000 hectares through conservation and nurturing. By the end of 2025, the forest cover rate in the province will reach 54%. These forests not only green barren land and hills but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the localities.”

According to the plan, by 2026 the entire province will plant 10,000 hectares of new forest and over 3.1 million scattered trees. Emphasis will be placed on developing large-timber forests, obtaining forest certification, and cultivating key forestry species with advantages specific to each locality to form concentrated raw material areas linked to processing and export, contributing to increasing the value of the forestry sector. Regarding planting structure, the midland and mountainous regions will plant multi-purpose trees such as various types of acacia, teak, mahogany, black ebony, rosewood, mahogany, teak, and sandalwood. The plains will plant shade trees that also provide timber, fruit trees, and ornamental trees such as mango, longan, acacia, mahogany, black ebony, and rosewood. The coastal region will prioritize planting windbreak trees, sand dune barriers, and trees that protect the ecological environment. Urban areas, industrial zones, streets, roads, and offices are planted with trees that provide shade and enhance the landscape, such as crape myrtle, cassia fistula, camphor, flamboyant, and magnolia; historical sites, temples, and pagodas are planted with banyan, bodhi, magnolia, fig, and other similar trees.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue a plan for organizing the "Tree Planting Festival in commemoration of President Ho Chi Minh" in the Spring of 2026. Simultaneously, it has assigned forest planting plans to the People's Committees of communes and wards and other units to proactively prepare planting sites and seedlings, ensuring that planting can begin early in the year when weather conditions are favorable. Local authorities have been directed to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts to help people understand the benefits of forest planting, forest protection, and environmental protection, contributing to disaster mitigation, climate change adaptation, and increased timber and forest product supply. Alongside this, plans are being developed to ensure sufficient high-quality forestry seedlings for planting. Technical guidance on new planting is being provided; the technical design of forestry projects is being completed successfully. People are encouraged to use high-quality seedlings and apply scientific and technical advancements in intensive forest planting.
