De Bruyne is about to make a comeback. |
After 128 days since his injury, Kevin De Bruyne is preparing to return to training with Napoli's first team. This information was confirmed by Italian media on March 2nd, marking a significant turning point for the Belgian midfielder and the ambitions of the Southern Italian club.
De Bruyne joined SSC Napoli on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, after concluding a hugely successful decade with Manchester City. However, he has only made eight appearances in Serie A this season due to a serious hamstring injury.
The incident occurred on October 25, 2025, during Napoli's 3-1 victory over Inter at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. De Bruyne scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, but was immediately forced to leave the field due to a hamstring injury. Tests revealed a severe hamstring tear, requiring surgery and a lengthy recovery period of several months.
During his recovery period, the 34-year-old midfielder primarily focused on rehabilitation in Belgium before returning to Italy last week. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport , De Bruyne will train with the first team early this week. His fitness is considered to be better than initially expected.
It's not out of the question that manager Antonio Conte will consider including De Bruyne in the squad for Friday night's match against Torino. However, after 128 days out, his return will likely be carefully considered.
Napoli also received more good news as Scott McTominay and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa are both close to returning. At this crucial stage of the season, the return of key players could provide a significant boost to the Blues' ambitions.
