The incident began when Ard Adz – a rapper turned jeweler – posted a video on Instagram accusing Alli of owing him £6,000. According to Adz, this money was for a bracelet Alli had ordered from Hatton Garden, London.
In addition to publicly criticizing the former England international, Ard Adz also called on the online community to help spread the information to put pressure on him.
In the video, Adz bluntly states: “Someone please tell Dele Alli to pay me £6,000. He’s a footballer, why won’t he pay? I’ve only been out of prison four months and I need that money. Dele, where are you?” The clip quickly went viral and received thousands of comments.
Following pressure from the online community, Ard Adz updated that the money had been paid. “Update: Dele has paid. Please stop bothering him, thanks for helping to pressure him to pay. The internet is amazing,” he wrote.
The incident occurred amidst a rapid decline in Alli's career. The 29-year-old had just had his contract terminated by Como after only one appearance. In that single game, he received a red card just minutes after coming on as a substitute, leading manager Cesc Fabregas to exclude him from the team's plans.
Once considered one of England's brightest talents, Alli is now unemployed and has yet to receive any offers.
