The incident began when Ard Adz, a rapper turned jeweler, posted a video on Instagram claiming Alli owed him £6,000, which Adz said was for a bracelet Alli had ordered from Hatton Garden in London.
In addition to publicly criticizing the former England player, Ard Adz also called on the online community to help spread information to put pressure.
In the video, Adz said bluntly: “Someone please text Dele Alli to pay me £6,000. He is a footballer, why doesn’t he pay? I just got out of prison for four months and I need the money. Where are you, Dele?” The clip quickly went viral and received thousands of comments.
After pressure from the online community, Ard Adz updated that the money had been paid. “Update: Dele has paid. Stop bothering everyone, thanks for helping to force him to pay. The internet is wonderful,” he wrote.
The incident comes as Alli's career has been on a downward spiral. The 29-year-old was released by Como after just one appearance. In that one game, he received a red card just minutes after coming off the bench, prompting coach Cesc Fabregas to remove him from the team's plans.
Once one of the brightest talents in English football, Alli is now unemployed and has not received any offers.
