Remove obstacles, reduce worries about flooding

Over the years, Thai Nguyen residents have witnessed how each heavy rain becomes a test for urban infrastructure. Some normally bustling central streets are suddenly submerged in water. These seemingly fleeting situations not only cause inconvenience for a few hours but gradually become a constant worry every time it starts to rain, especially during heavy rains...

It is worth mentioning that these inconveniences are no longer natural disasters, but a warning that the city is under pressure from human-made impacts. Therefore, the recent direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan on urgently dismantling works encroaching on drainage areas has received the consensus of the majority of people.

This is an immediate solution to remove bottlenecks and restore natural flow to the drainage system in the central area of the province. Water can only "go the right way" when its space is kept clear.

A wall built a few dozen centimeters further, a concrete slab placed over a manhole or a narrowed ditch… can all slow down the flow and cause it to back up during heavy rains. As a result, the city has to pay the price of flooding, pollution and disruption to the daily lives of thousands of people.

Along with clearing obvious obstacles, the province will launch a short-term peak campaign to dredge and clear the drainage system and deal with urgent bottlenecks. This is a complicated task because it involves many residential areas. However, the determination in directing shows that the government is focusing on handling the key tasks at hand, creating the necessary foundation for implementing longer-term solutions in the coming time.

However, flooding is difficult to solve once and for all without the cooperation of the community. Many bottlenecks in reality originate from seemingly small habits in daily life: garbage accidentally blocking the outlet, small objects clogging the drain or ditches being misused. When drainage space is not considered a common property, technical measures are also difficult to achieve long-term effectiveness.

Everyone wants a clean, airy city, and that can only be achieved when everyone contributes to that common goal. A stable drainage system will help reduce flooding, limit pollution and keep urban life from being disrupted as in the past.

Therefore, during the upcoming peak period, we hope that each of us will accompany the government, create favorable conditions for the construction force, comply with demolition regulations and maintain hygiene in the place where we live.

Flooding is not a permanent problem. When order is restored, obstacles are removed and everyone works together to maintain the drainage system, the water will have its own "path". Then heavy rains will be less of a concern and less likely to disrupt people's daily lives.
