The car was speeding along.
Recently, a bypass road from Cay Me 2 Bridge in Tri Ton commune, crossing the rice fields, offers stunning scenery and a smooth, unobstructed route to the Bay Nui region. The bypass starts from Provincial Road 941 and connects to Provincial Road 948, spanning approximately 3km. Viewed from above, the bypass resembles a straight ribbon of silk. As evening falls and the crimson sunset touches the peak of Co To Mountain, young people visiting the mountainous region of Tri Ton commune stop along this road to capture beautiful photos amidst the rice paddies. To the west, a long, majestic mountain range stretches out, creating a tranquil and poetic landscape.
Nguyen Bich Phuong, a resident of Dong Thap province, posed for a sunset photo along this road. She said that she saw many people checking in at this beautiful bypass on social media, so she invited her friends to travel here and take some souvenir photos. “The bypass is nestled amidst beautiful rice fields. As evening falls, to the west you can see the Co To mountain range, Ta Pa hill… I am very impressed by the wonderful scenery here,” Bich Phuong said.
Since this bypass was opened, vehicles traveling from Long Xuyen along Provincial Road 941, then across Cay Me 2 Bridge, can reach the intersection with Provincial Road 948 in just over 5 minutes. When we drove along this section, we saw rice paddies on both sides, their branches bent like ripe tamarind fruit, a truly rustic sight. Before this bypass was built, during peak tourist seasons and festivals, visitors to Bay Nui had to travel via Provincial Road 941 near Tri Ton market, which was very slow due to the dense population.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang (53 years old), residing in Tri Ton commune, whose house is near Cay Me 2 bridge, said that this bypass road, which started operating before Tet, has made traffic flow more convenient and delighted the people. Since the bypass road was built, many tourists can get to Cam Mountain faster. "When we learned that the government invested in building this road, everyone was happy. Now, many tourists are unfamiliar with this route and stop by to ask for directions. I'm happy to show them how to get to Cam Mountain faster, instead of having to go through Tri Ton market, which is further away," Ms. Trang shared.
The people benefit
The bypass road of National Highway 91, running from Chau Doc to the Bay Nui region, crosses the straight rice fields and is considered the backbone, driving socio -economic development in the Bay Nui area. This road always impresses tourists with its picturesque scenery. Since the bypass road was built, it has solved the problem of traffic congestion during the festival season of the Lady of Sam Mountain.
The straight road makes it convenient for farmers to drive to their fields, and the land value increases. In the morning, while driving along this road, we encountered many farmers who had hired drones to spray their rice crops. Stopping to ask about the harvest, everyone smiled. Mr. Nguyen Van Chin (43 years old), residing in Vinh Te ward, said that he is cultivating 20 acres of OM 18 rice near this bypass road. Previously, travel was difficult, but now with this road, he visits his fields 2-3 times a day. “Since this road was built, the people have benefited greatly. During harvest season, vehicles can drive right into the fields to transport the rice home. Now, the land value has increased, and I'm very happy!” Mr. Chin said.
The middle section of the National Highway 91 bypass offers stunning scenery, with vast rice fields on both sides. In the distance, Mount Sam stands amidst the fertile fields, creating a picturesque landscape that attracts young people to take photos at sunset.
Every year, from after Tet (Lunar New Year) until the Via Ba Chua Xu festival at Sam Mountain, the volume of traffic from Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces heading to An Giang is very high. Currently, the Long Xuyen bypass is considered a vital route, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and accidents on the old National Highway 91. Students can now drive themselves to school, and parents feel more at ease, as the number of trucks and container vehicles traveling on this route has decreased.
Mr. Tran Van Thai, a resident of Binh Duc ward, said that before the bypass was built, the volume of traffic visiting Ba Chua Xu Mountain was very high on peak days. Traffic jams were frequent on Saturdays and Sundays on Tran Hung Dao Street. Now that the bypass is in place, people are happy because it reduces congestion and traffic accidents in the inner city, passing through My Thoi, Long Xuyen, and Binh Duc wards. It also shortens travel time from Chau Doc ward to Vam Cong bridge.
With synchronized infrastructure, wide and unobstructed roads, and convenient traffic flow, traffic congestion and accidents are reduced, the quality of life for residents is improved, and the local area's appearance is enhanced.
