People visit Mr. Dua's grave.
According to the oral traditions of the elders in Long Tuyen, Mr. and Mrs. Dua were virtuous and respected people. About 200-300 years ago, this land was still wild and full of wild animals. Mr. and Mrs. Dua were the first to come and clear the land, establish their livelihood, and build their lives. Seeing this, other villagers came to settle here and received wholehearted support and assistance from Mr. and Mrs. Dua in terms of their business practices. After their passing, the villagers erected a shrine to honor their gratitude to these pioneers who had contributed to opening up the land.
According to the locals in Ong Dua canal, from 1973 to the present, every year on the 25th day of the 4th lunar month, they have held a very solemn memorial service for Mr. Dua. His tomb still exists; originally built of laterite stone, it was rebuilt with concrete on the 9th day of the 11th lunar month of 2021. Locally, there is a folk song that goes: “In the past, Mr. and Mrs. Dua came from afar, with a boat and a machete, working hard to reclaim this land, transforming dense forests into rice paddies, toiling day and night…” and that: “One day, they died, and the villagers mourned and buried them, worshipping, offering sacrifices, and celebrating the anniversary and New Year, so Mr. Dua’s name will live on.”
