Beauty services are attracting customers during the year-end season.

At Tung Tong Hair Salon (Hac Thanh Ward), customers book appointments early to get their hair done in time for Tet (Lunar New Year).

Schedule your beauty appointment early.

While in the past many people waited until just before Tet (Lunar New Year) to get a haircut or manicure, this year the trend of booking appointments early is much more pronounced. This is partly due to the busy end-of-year workload, and partly because salons and spas experience a surge in customers, especially on weekends.

At many well-known hair salons in Hac Thanh ward, such as Phong Van Hair & Beauty Salon, Tung Tong Hair Salon, and Salon Tony Xeo..., the number of customers seeking services has increased significantly since the beginning of the twelfth lunar month. From early morning, many salons already have customers waiting for their turn.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Dung from Ham Rong ward shared: “The end of the year is a time for many gatherings and parties. I didn't want to wait until close to Tet (Lunar New Year) to get my nails done because I was afraid of the crowds and the rush. This year I chose to get them done early so I have time to make adjustments if needed, and besides, getting my nails done also helps lift my spirits.”

It's not just Ms. Dung; many young customers also have the habit of booking appointments early. For them, beauty treatments are not simply about changing their appearance, but also about expressing their personality. Le Ngoc Anh, an office worker, said: "I've noticed that this year everyone likes loose, wavy hair in cool brown or chocolate colors; it looks natural yet sophisticated. After getting it done, I feel completely different and more confident going to year-end parties."

Alongside hair salons, nail salons are equally busy. At Minh Tuyet salon (Tho Xuan commune), the flow of customers is constant in the days leading up to Tet. Some choose simple gel polish, while others meticulously examine designs with rhinestones and floral patterns to get their nails done in time for end-of-year gatherings. The sounds of nail grinders, lively conversations, and the faint scent of nail polish create a bustling yet warm atmosphere.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa from Tho Xuan commune shared: "Even though the end of the year is busy, I still make time to get my nails done neatly and beautifully. It doesn't need to be too elaborate; just having brighter-looking hands makes me feel confident when going to parties or meeting friends." According to the salon owner, this year customers prefer light tones like nude, milky pink, and burgundy, combined with minimalist designs.

Besides hair and nails, eyelash curling and lifting are becoming a "quick and effective" option for many women. In just about 45-60 minutes, naturally curled eyelashes brighten the face, making you look radiant even without heavy makeup. Salons report that this year's customers prefer a soft, natural curl, avoiding overly thick extensions to prevent eye strain.

For those seeking more relaxation, spa treatments such as skin care and therapeutic hair washes are a suitable option. A spa employee on Le Hoan Street, Hac Thanh Ward, said: "The number of customers is significantly higher at the end of the year, especially office workers. They often choose basic skin care, deep cleansing, moisturizing, or therapeutic hair washes to relax."

The "smart" beauty trend

With the increased demand for beauty treatments, the risk of "rushing" or "overdoing" the process also increases. A single, overly aggressive perm or dyeing treatment on weak hair can cause months of breakage and hair loss. A manicure at an unsanitary salon can lead to persistent infections and fungal nail growth. Thick eyelash extensions with poor-quality glue can cause eye irritation, redness, and itching. And an unsuitable skincare treatment can cause skin irritation, rashes, and swelling right before Tet (Lunar New Year). Therefore, this year's trend clearly shows that customers are not just asking "what style looks good," but are asking more about safety, durability, and the ability to restore the hair. At hair salons, instead of chasing bright, eye-catching colors, many people are choosing darker tones and prioritizing hair restoration. Hair salons also report that customers prefer soft waves, layered hairstyles, and side-swept bangs – easy to maintain, suitable for many environments, and especially not looking "overdone."

When it comes to skincare, many people tend to choose deep cleansing, moisturizing, and skin-restoring services rather than harsh treatments. Nguyen Minh Trang from Nguyet Vien ward shared: “At the end of the year, I often stay up late, and my skin tone noticeably darkens. I choose gentle skincare, deep cleansing, moisturizing, and applying face masks. After doing these, my skin looks brighter and healthier, and I don't want to do anything too harsh for fear of irritation.”

In another area, therapeutic hair washing and neck and shoulder massage have also become popular choices. This is not just about beauty, but also a way for the body to relax, relieve aches and pains, and de-stress. During the end of the year, when everyone is easily exhausted, a truly relaxing session is sometimes the most practical gift you can give yourself.

The good news is that customers' increasing discernment is forcing beauty salons to improve quality: skills must be more solid, advice must be more accurate, and products must have clearer origins. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, owner of a hair salon in Quang Phu ward, said: "Some customers want a drastic change but their hair is weak, so we advise them to restore it first before perming or dyeing. Customers are very meticulous now; they care more about quality and safety."

However, amidst the year-end beauty craze, the advice always needs to be reiterated: choose reputable establishments, avoid being tempted by cheap prices, and don't blindly follow trends regardless of the condition of your hair, skin, and eyes. Because just one inappropriate beauty treatment can have consequences lasting for months: damaged hair, irritated skin, and even health problems.
