Doctors and nurses from the department and the Social Work Office of Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital visited the patients.
At Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the image of medical staff always smiling, warmly welcoming, caring for, and assisting has become familiar to people whenever they visit for examinations. Gone are the feelings of awkwardness and confusion; many patients are guided through the steps, from registering for examinations and completing procedures to moving between departments and wards.
Ms. Pham Thi Hien from Luu Ve commune, waiting for her results in the examination area, said: “I was quite worried about coming to the hospital for a check-up because I wasn't familiar with the procedures. But when I arrived, I was greeted and guided very thoughtfully by the staff, who took me to each examination room. The medical staff also inquired about my situation and listened to my story, so I felt reassured and at ease.”
This dedication extends beyond simply providing service; it also includes the proactive approach of social workers in understanding the circumstances of patients. From simple conversations in the hallways, from worried glances or concerns about costs, many difficult cases have been identified in a timely manner. For example, Ms. Bui Thi Hoa from Trung Chinh commune, who was hospitalized for 10 days, is a patient from a poor household, caring for her elderly mother, and facing difficult circumstances. Understanding her situation, the Social Work Department connected her with benefactors who provided 3 million VND in support. Ms. Hoa said: “Not only did I receive attentive care, but I also received timely assistance. These gifts made me feel much warmer inside.”
The Social Work Department of Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital was established in January 2024. To date, the department has 15 staff members and is gradually asserting its role in the overall operation of the hospital. From being a support unit, social work is gradually becoming an important link in improving the quality of healthcare services. Medical staff here undertake tasks such as welcoming, advising, supporting, surveying patients' opinions, promoting the hospital's image, soliciting donations, and assisting patients in need.
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quang, Head of the Social Work Department and Deputy Head of the Infertility Department at Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said: "With the goal of putting patients at the center, staff in the department always strive to improve their skills, expertise, and spirit and attitude in serving patients. Social work activities are implemented comprehensively, contributing to supporting patients both mentally and materially."
To facilitate patients' examinations and treatments at the hospital, social workers are always present in the outpatient area to directly welcome, guide, and conduct preliminary screenings of patients coming for examinations and admissions, as well as to introduce and advise on services. As a result, approximately 90% of patients coming for examinations and admissions receive assistance in accessing necessary paraclinical services. On average, nearly 6,000 patients are welcomed, advised, and guided each month. Simultaneously, social workers update and disseminate relevant state policies and laws related to medical examinations and treatment, and hospital activities to medical staff, patients, and their families through direct consultations, social media, the hospital's website, and its fanpage.
Furthermore, patient satisfaction surveys are conducted regularly. Social workers make follow-up calls and conduct interviews with patients after discharge to gather valuable feedback. In particular, the implementation of online surveys via QR codes has enabled patients to provide feedback quickly and conveniently, contributing to the timely resolution of any issues that arise. Information channels such as the fan page and customer service hotline are maintained continuously, ensuring timely answers to questions from patients and their families.
With the motto "wherever there are patients in need, there is social work," the hospital's social workers have called upon and mobilized organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to support patients in difficult circumstances with examination and treatment at the hospital. From 2025 to the present, the Social Work Department has mobilized support for more than 1,200 patients through various forms of donations, assistance with transportation costs for hospital transfers, etc.
Besides its support duties, the Social Work Department of Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital also participates in service activities, contributing to improving the quality of patient care. Technical services such as supporting the treatment of obstetric and gynecological wounds and caring for newborn umbilical cords using cold plasma have been effectively implemented, with over 13,645 cases for mothers and 11,391 cases for infants. The "birth diary" video recording service has also made a mark, with 173 cases completed, providing meaningful experiences for mothers and their families. In addition, the department provides psychological support for patients experiencing psychological problems after trauma or depression; and offers hair washing services for patients, contributing to providing convenient services and increasing patient satisfaction.
The quiet dedication of the social work team is contributing to building an increasingly professional, patient-centered hospital. They not only provide support but also become a pillar of strength, helping patients feel understood and more confident in their treatment journey.
