Members of livelihood groups in Thuong Coc commune participated in a training course to reinforce their knowledge of vaccines and livestock farming techniques.
The Women's Union of Thuong Coc commune has over 2,300 members. Over the years, the Union has continuously innovated its content and methods of operation, extensively implementing the emulation movement "Building the Vietnamese woman of the new era" with criteria of knowledge, morality, health, and responsibility towards oneself, family, and society. Alongside this are patriotic emulation movements and the campaign to build "5 no, 3 clean" families, linked to the advanced new rural development program.
A highlight of the Association's activities is its focus on supporting members' economic development. Recognizing capital as a crucial "lever" to help women escape poverty, the Association effectively manages capital from the Social Policy Bank, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 25 billion VND for more than 200 members through 11 savings and loan groups. It is noteworthy that for many years, these groups have consistently been rated as good, achieving 100% interest and savings collection, with no overdue or non-performing loans.
Thanks to preferential loan programs, many women have boldly invested in developing livestock farming, crop cultivation, and small-scale service businesses. The association regularly monitors loan needs, guides members in developing suitable production plans, and coordinates the organization of training courses to transfer scientific and technical knowledge, helping women use capital effectively.

To date, the Association maintains 8 pig farming livelihood groups with 215 members participating. Many economic development models such as livestock and poultry farming, fruit tree cultivation, food service businesses, and small-scale trading at home... have brought stable income and gradually improved living standards.
Besides providing capital support, models such as "Women Helping Each Other Develop Economically," "Savings and Loan Groups," "Saving Money in Piggy Banks," "Creating Livelihoods," and "Women Serving Community Tourism " continue to be effectively maintained. Members not only share production experiences but also support each other with labor, livestock, feed, and encouragement to overcome difficulties. Thanks to these practical activities, five women's households escaped poverty last year, and many others have gradually become more prosperous right in their homeland.
While policy funding provides opportunities for women to invest in production, the "Improving the Quality of Life of Particularly Disadvantaged Communities" project, implemented by the Provincial Women's Union in collaboration with CARE International in Vietnam, further motivates women to change their mindset towards sustainable economic development. The project focuses on three pillars: enhancing community capacity, improving livelihoods, and increasing resilience to climate change. Of these, sustainable livelihood development is identified as a key solution to help people escape poverty in the long term.
Women's association members in Thuong Coc commune are working together to prepare for the local festival.
Through close coordination between local authorities, the Women's Union, and sponsoring organizations, five livelihood groups have been established with nearly 100 members. Each group receives 100 million VND in support to invest in production development, mainly pig farming, suitable to the local natural conditions and customs. Beyond capital support, members also receive hands-on guidance on livestock farming techniques, disease prevention, waste management, and the construction of hygienic pigpens.
Thanks to the practical and hands-on approach, many members quickly grasped the techniques and applied them effectively to production. Ms. Bui Thi Ngan, head of the Thay Voi livestock farming livelihood group, said that previously her family only raised livestock on a small scale, resulting in low economic efficiency. After participating in the project, receiving capital support and technical guidance, her family boldly expanded the scale and fully implemented disease prevention and hygiene procedures according to the guidelines, so the livestock thrived, bringing in a stable income.
Beyond creating livelihoods, the project also contributes to changing people's perceptions of commodity production, environmental protection, and adaptation to climate change. Models for waste treatment using biological products and waste sorting at source are being replicated, contributing to building a greener and cleaner living environment.
It is evident that the harmonious combination of policy-based credit, the women's movement for mutual economic support, and assistance from the CARE Project has created a solid foundation for many women in Thuong Coc to confidently rise out of poverty. More importantly, these programs not only provide material resources but also help women change their mindset, improve their skills, proactively engage in production linkages, and take control of their lives.
